📋 About This Mod
Overview
Using the Dynamic Armor Variants framework, this mod makes both the player and NPCs automatically lower their hoods depending on their location. It enables switching for most hoods in the vanilla game, as well as the mods Armor and Clothing Extension, Wet and Cold, and Northborn Fur Hoods.
Additionally, if you have installed the DAV Hidden Equipment add-on, NPCs who wear helmets will hide their helmets when inside inns and dwellings.
The resources used are from Lowered Hoods by Predence and Lowered Fur Hoods by Casualkhajiit.
How to integrate your mods
Create a config file: SKSE\Plugins\DynamicArmorVariants\MyPlugin.json
For any lowered hoods in your mod, map the armor addons under the "LoweredHoods" variant. In the example below, the Form ID 800 corresponds to the default/raised hood, and 900 corresponds to the lowered hood. Make sure that the armor addon you use here has slot 31 enabled. If you use lowered hoods with only slot 45, it will not work correctly.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge community trust (3,360 endorsements) — this is a proven mod.
- Massive adoption (1.7M downloads) — clearly fills a need for hood lovers.
- Dynamic toggling adds immersion without breaking your character's look.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2022 — may have compatibility issues with the latest Skyrim updates.
- Requires the Dynamic Armor Variants framework — extra dependency to manage.
- Only affects hoods — if you want other armor toggles, this won't help.
For Skyrim players who love hooded armor but hate how hoods clip or hide your face. If you're a roleplayer who wants to flip your hood up in combat and down in town, this is a must-have. Skip if you never wear hoods or want broader armor customization.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the Dynamic Armor Variants framework installed first, or the mod won't work.
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2 to handle the install and load order automatically.
- Check for patches if you use other mods that alter hoods or armor — compatibility might be an issue with the 2022 update.
