imorphodons are ancient flying reptiles that originate from Morrowind and Blackmarsh. They are ancient species of Pterosaurs which are distant cousins of Cliff Racers, Cliff Striders, and Cliff Darters. They are easily mistaken for Cliff Creatures by outlanders and the inhabitants of Morrowind as they both share physical similarities.

For all of Nirns history, they have been known to live exclusively in Morrowind and Black Marsh with some exceptional migrations to other providences due to their adventurous nature, but such reports are rare until the event of the red year happened.

With the eruption of the Red Mountain, many of them, as well as other Pterosaurs, started migrating to other providences in search of better places to live. Not only did they survive but they manage to thrive in most of Tamriel which includes Skyrim.

Dimorphodons are small and are often seen in large groups. Individually

,

they don't pose much of a threat

and can be dispatched very easily with just a couple of swings. But they are extremely dangerous when they work together and have the potential to take down mammoths. They are extremely fast and swoop down on their victims.

Luckily for most of Skyrim's inhabitants, Dimorphodons are mainly piscivores/insectivores

and usually don't attack anyone unless someone gets too close to them

.

The Cave Dimorphodon is an exception and will hunt anything they can get their teeth on,

however, they stick mostly to caves.

They've been incorporated by the Falmer to serve as scouts to alert the Falmer of any trespassers. Noone really knows how cave Dimorphodons came to be.

Other Dimorphons have been made into pets by forsworn and bandits to serve the same function.
