Dead Space (2008) Vortex Extension

Dead Space (2008) support for Vortex Mod Manager.

This extension allows Vortex to automatically discover and manage the original 2008 release of Dead Space. It supports Steam, EA App, and legacy Origin installations, including games installed on different Windows drives.

- Automatically discovers Steam App ID 17470.

- Checks common EA App and Origin installation locations.

- Searches all fixed Windows drives for the game.

- Validates the original game files to avoid detecting the 2023 remake.

- Supports DLL, INI, ASI, ReShade, mouse-fix, and other root-folder mods.

- Deploys applicable mod files beside `Dead Space.exe`.

- Provides clear installation and TexMod guidance.

- Handles protected Program Files installations with one clear access request instead of repeated Vortex permission prompts.

Installation

1. Download and install the extension through Vortex.

2. Restart Vortex when prompted.

3. Open Games and scan for installed games.

4. Select Manage on Dead Space (2008).

5. Install, enable, and deploy your mods normally.

Protected game folders

EA App and Steam may install the game inside a protected Program Files directory. If Vortex cannot write there, the extension will display one confirmation followed by a Windows permission prompt.

If approved, it grants your current Windows account modification access only to the validated Dead Space (2008) installation folder. You do not need to run Vortex permanently as administrator.

Supported mods

Normal DLL, INI, ASI, ReShade, and root-folder mods are deployed directly into the game directory. Always read each mod’s installation instructions because some mods may require additional configuration.

TexMod packages

TexMod `.tpf` packages cannot be injected directly by Vortex. The extension keeps them organized inside the `TexMod Packages` folder, but TexMod or another compatible texture-injection tool is still required when starting the game.

This extension is specifically for Dead Space (2008). The Dead Space remake released in 2023 is not supported.

Tested with a real EA App installation in `C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dead Space`, including automatic discovery, protected-folder access, installation, and deployment of the Dead Space Mouse Fix.
