The company throws countless test subjects into a bottomless pit to recover lost equipment. These subjects are spliced from human, fox, and rat DNA, treated as disposable tools. No one expects them to come back alive.

企业把成千上万的实验体丢进深不见底的坑洞，让他们去回收那些坠落的物资。这些实验体由人类、狐狸和老鼠的基因拼凑而成，被当作用完即弃的工具，没有人指望他们活着回来。

Far below the surface, in abandoned mine layers, something else is waiting. War machines built in the image of the Thornback Elder lie dormant in the dark. They were not made by the company, and they belong to no modern faction. They are simply old weapons abandoned long ago, waiting for a signal that should never come.

而在远离地表的废弃矿层深处，还沉睡着另一批东西：模仿棘背兽长老外形制造的战争机械。它们不是企业造的，也不属于任何现代组织，只是很久以前被遗弃在黑暗中的仿生兵器，一直等待着某个永远不会响起的指令。

One day, a piece of company equipment falls from above, tumbles through a crack, and lands inside their nest.

某一天，一件企业设备从上层坠落，穿过裂缝，滚进了它们长眠的洞穴。

The object is damaged, but it still sends out a faint signal. That signal does not connect to any company system. Instead, it accidentally activates ancient receivers buried inside the machines. Like an unintended pairing, V1 and V2 wake up.

那东西已经损坏，却仍然发送着微弱的信号。这段信号没有接入任何企业网络，却意外激活了机械体内的古老接收器。就像一次不经意的配对，V1 和 V2 被唤醒了。

Not long after they awaken, something strange happens in the cave. Light fixtures that should have been dead for years flicker back on. A few long-broken terminals blink with faint light, as if some unseen force is feeding them power again.

它们苏醒后不久，洞穴里出现了某种变化。那些本该彻底断电的照明装置重新亮起，几台早已死去的终端也偶尔闪烁出微光。仿佛有什么看不见的东西正在重新给它们供给能量。

V1 and V2 become part of that same energy chain. They recognise the fallen object as an external power source. As long as the signal remains, they can keep drawing energy from it, connected by an invisible thread.

V1 和 V2 也成为了这条能量链的一部分。那件坠落物被它们识别为外部能量来源。只要信号还在，它们就能持续补充动力，如同被一根无形的线连接着。

The company knows nothing about this. All they see is lost equipment, so they send wave after wave of test subjects down into the pit to search.

When those subjects come close to the machines' nest, V1 and V2 attack immediately. Not out of cruelty, but because they cannot lose their only source of energy. Anything that comes near is seen as a threat trying to cut their power.

当实验体靠近机械巢穴时，V1 和 V2 会立刻发起攻击。不是因为它们天生嗜血，而是因为它们不能失去唯一的能量来源。任何靠近的生物，都会被它们当成试图切断电源的威胁。

V1 is the original prototype. It is heavy, crude, and full of unfinished design marks. It is the template for everything that followed.

V2 is the later model, refined from V1. It is larger, calmer, and closer to what its creators originally intended. But on its body, there is a sealed lock port.

V2 则是从 V1 改进而来的后续型。它更庞大，更冷静，也更接近设计者原本想要的样子。但在它身上，有一个被封死的锁口。

That port once connected to an external command channel, built to call for reinforcements. The original plan was for each machine to remotely awaken another V2 when near destruction. But the system never truly worked. By the time V2 was produced, the port had been sealed shut.

那个锁口曾经连接着一条外部指令通道，用于在受损时呼叫增援。设计者原本希望每一台机械在濒临损坏时，都能远程唤醒另一台 V2。但这套系统从未真正启用过。到了 V2 这一代，他们直接封死了它。

Even so, the transmitter deep inside both machines still lives. When V1 or V2 suffers serious damage, they still try to send that ancient signal. It never receives an answer.

These machines still carry abilities far beyond ordinary weapons. Their high-level system authority lets them access most terminals and security devices. Their constant self-diagnostics let them adapt when damaged. And that broken signal channel now remains only as an unanswered hum in the dark.

The company will never know the truth. They only care about getting their equipment back. Down in the pit, the machines just want to keep the one thing that keeps them alive.

企业永远不会知道真相。他们只关心设备能不能找回来。而洞底的那些机械，也只是在守护唯一让它们继续运转的东西。

Overview / 概览

Mech Thornback adds two fearsome mechanical bosses to Casualties Unknown: the Mech Thornback Elder V1 and the Mech Thornback Elder V2.

机械棘背兽为《Casualties Unknown》添加了两个可怕的机械 Boss：机械棘背兽长老 V1 和机械棘背兽长老 V2。

These heavily-armoured spider-like machines bring intense three-phase battles, custom threat music, devastating electric discharges, and a unique one-phase sabotage mechanic.

Also included is the Wireless Assistant, a rare utility item dropped by both bosses.
