Harvesting Multitool

Description

I was always annoyed that harvesting meant carrying both a pickaxe and an axe. Later on you can automate most of your gathering, but early game it matters: dungeon runs for that first sulfur and coal stockpile, and my constantly running out of wood (giggity). So I made this.

Originally I wanted to add lower tiers of the vanilla laser mining tool, but I wasn't happy with how that played. This is built on the Overheat Rifle instead, and it looks exactly like one, since changing models and textures is beyond my skills and free time.

The premise is that durability and heat are your limiters. Every shot chips away at durability, and heat build-up forces you to work in bursts, much the same way stamina drain paces a melee swing. Stamina feeds into it directly: the more you've invested in the stat, the longer you can hold the trigger before the emitter locks out to cool, so a high-Stamina character gets noticeably more work out of the same tool.

I tuned the damage, heat and durability to sit in range of the vanilla axe and pickaxe at each tier. The Multicutter is meant to be a bit more efficient than the manual tools, and that edge grows with every tier, but it falls short of the vanilla laser mining tool so it never replaces it. While this uses the Overheat Rifle's model, it doesn't act like one. Pals, NPCs and other players take no damage from it and won't aggro, so you can fire straight through a pasture full of your own Pals without a second thought.

Tier 1 unlocks automatically at level 1, along with the Paldium Cell. The cell is mostly RP flavor and acts as the enabler for the tool. It's a key item, so you craft it once and never think about it again. Tiers 2 through 4 are schematics that have a chance to drop from the chest at the end of a dungeon run, and which ones you can find depends on the dungeon's tier. You can find them starting in the early caverns and running up through the volcano, the desert and the snow.

It's a random roll and not every run will give you one, but lower schematics also have a chance to drop in the higher dungeons too, so a bad streak never locks you out. Each tier's recipe also consumes the tier below it, so the ladder adds up to something genuinely expensive by the end. That's the point. You're not meant to skip the cost of gathering, just to stop carrying two tools to do it.

Manual Installation

1. PalSchema Installation

🔹 Install PalSchema. Follow the official PalSchema installation instructions for further guidance. Skip this step if you already have it installed.

2. UE4SS Installation

🔹 Install the latest experimental UE4SS. Skip this step if you already have it installed.

3. Mod Installation

🔹 Open your Palworld installation directory. On Steam, you can right-click the game, select Manage > Browse local files. Should be similar for other platforms.

🔹 Download the mod. The files in the zip are already structured to drop right into the Palworld folder.

🔹 After extracting, check that you have the following structure:

Uninstall

Delete all three:

- Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\PalSchema\mods\HarvestingMultiTool\

Where to find it

Craft the Paldium Multicutter and a Paldium Cell at the Primitive

Workbench. Both unlock automatically at level 1 and cost no technology points.

The three higher tiers are not on the technology tree. Each one needs its schematic, found in dungeon treasure chests across the map, and then a bench to match: High Quality Workbench for the Rudimentary, Production Assembly Line for the Refined, and Production Assembly Line II for the Advanced. No tier consumes the one below it, so an upgrade is a straight craft rather than a sacrifice.

Settings

All settings live in Scripts\config.lua. It's plain text with a note on every line, and changes take effect the next tim
