Better Skutlass Partner Skill

Description

Skutlass has one of the most creative and Palworld-esque Partner Skills in the game. What kind of crazy game lets you swing a giant fish spine as a sword? However, despite its charm (or maybe for balance reasons), you can only wield Skutlass for up to 10 seconds. Worse yet, casting iai immediately cancels the Partner Skill, no matter how much time you have left.

This mod removes every mechanism that forcibly interrupts the Partner Skill for both Skutlass and Skutlass Ignis, making sure Skutlass doesn't dare die on you without your permission. This gives Skutlass a real shot at being your main weapon for your entire playthrough. The specific changes are as follows:

Key Changes

• []Skutlass's Partner Skill duration has been massively extended from 10 seconds to 9,999 seconds. [/]

  []The Partner Skill cooldown was reduced from 10 seconds down to just 0. 2 seconds.  [/]

  []The script that dealt 99,999 fatal damage to Skutlass upon hitting the 10-second mark or executing the Iai move has been completely disabled. [/]

  Forced Partner Skill Cancellation Removed: As a result, the skill stays active until you manually cancel it, summon another Pal, or somehow manage to hold the sword for almost 3 hours straight.

  Proper Melee Synergy Integration: The sword wielded through Skutlass's Partner Skill now properly benefits from Loupmoon and Cryst's Partner Skill (Melee Attack Speed Boost). Having Loupmoon and/or Cryst in your party cranks your attack speed up by 15% to 60% while swinging Skutlass, giving melee builds a fighting chance in an endgame notoriously hostile to close-range play. Player ATK boosts like Solenne's and element enchantments like Anubis's work completely as intended.

  NOTE: Unfortunately, Pupperai's ATK boost still doesn't apply, likely because the fish sword that Skutlass spawns isn't recognized as a valid target for Pupperai's buff.

  Unintended Dual Summoning: If you trigger Skutlass's Partner Skill while unarmed, you can actually summon a second Pal right after (this won't happen with a weapon equipped). It won't cancel Skutlass's Partner Skill, so Skutlass remains in your hands as a weapon. This allows you to gain active enchantments from the second Pal—or even mount and ride them around. Since Pupperai's boost is out of the picture, pairing Skutlass with an element-enchanting Pal like Anubis is fully viable. To support this playstyle, I've uploaded another mod that increases the buff uptime for enchanting Pals.

  Every single tweak in this mod can be easily customized via JSON. Edit JSON to tune Skutlass's Partner Skill cooldown, maximum duration, or weapon power per rank to your liking.

  NOTE: Due to how vanilla Palworld handles things, Skutlass's weapon damage is completely unaffected by the Pal's own stats—it relies solely on the fixed damage values listed in the JSON. Raising Skutlass's ATK stat will do absolutely nothing for the weapon's damage.

  Known Issues

  As mentioned above, under certain conditions, you can summon a second Pal alongside Skutlass. It's definitely weird, but even if you remove Skutlass from your party in this state, the sword attacks just wrap up smoothly after a few seconds without any breaking issues. I ran plenty of strange tests on it, and it doesn't seem to cause any game-breaking side effects like CTDs. Since it turned out to be immersive—and, frankly, hilarious—I have no plans to patch this out unless a game-breaking bug pops up. If you're worried about potential glitches, simply avoid activating Skutlass's partner skill while unarmed.
