📋 About This Mod
Description
This mod reworks the shop inventory of scrap dealers found on space stations in order to give players the option to purchase starship components used for fabricating ships with Tainted Metal as the currency when selecting the "Purchase old scrap" option.
Each scrap dealer will offer 8 various starship component items. Each space station will have a different selection of these items.
Each scrap dealer will still offer items like Repair Kits and Suspicious Packets for Tech, Goods and Arms.
The idea behind this mod is to give players a new reason to engage in exploring derelict freighters and farming Tainted Metal, as well as provide an alternative option to hunt for desired starship components. In late gameplay the items selection offered by scrap dealers becomes either redundant (due to outlaw stations selling lots of X class tech modules) or of little significance to general gameplay (some decals, base decoration items).
Note that it's imperative with removing said items from scrap dealers' inventory as long the mod is active.

This mod is likely to work with other mods modifying the same file.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 231 endorsements and over 11k downloads—clearly a mod people actually use.
- Gives late-game players a fresh reason to hit derelict freighters and farm Tainted Metal.
- Each station having a different stock means you'll actually want to shop around—nice variety.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires removing the mod's items from scrap dealer inventory if you uninstall—otherwise you'll have ghost items.
- The LUA script and MBIN file editing might be overkill for casual modders—could be intimidating.
- No explicit compatibility notes for other inventory overhaul mods—might conflict if they touch the same files.
For No Man's Sky players who are deep into ship building and want a more reliable way to snag specific components without endless station hopping. Also for anyone who enjoys exploring derelict freighters and wants that Tainted Metal to actually matter. Skip if you're early game or don't care about ship fabrication—this won't change your life.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the 'Purchase old scrap' option unlocked—it's tied to scrap dealers on space stations, so check your game version.
- If you're using a mod manager, just drop the ZIP in—but if you're manual, extract to GAMEDATA\MODS and ensure the folder structure is correct.
- Before uninstalling, sell or discard any scrap dealer items you bought—otherwise they might linger in your inventory.
