📋 About This Mod

What is this Mod?

Short version: This is a Grass-fixing mod.

Generally-speaking, this mod makes the grass more dense, a little bigger, and grow normally on slopes.

This mod replaces vanilla grass-placement parameters with my own substitutes. I have mildly increased density, affected the maximum rendering ranges, and altered the dimensions of the grass gently in order to make it proportionally wider, which lets the same number of grass objects visually cover a bit more ground.

Because the grass is somewhat taller in the mod, various flowers, trees, shrubbery, and resource crystals have been increased in size buy a multiplier of 1. 5x, and their density by the inverse ( 1 / 1. 5 ).

Thanks to changes by HG, you can now control whether you use a short render range or a long render range by changing Planet Detail in graphics settings. Standard, Enhanced or High will use the shorter range option, while Ultra will use the longer range option.

Philosophy

I like flush, full grass coverage. I don't like craggy, patchy grass that looks lousy and unconvincing. I did something about it :)

Known Side-Effects

Grass Fix will re-randomize the species and positions of flora.

Grass Fix is not compatible with certain popular mods that change up the biomes, like Redmas's Fantasy or WoodyMontana's Better Planet Generation.

Ground Fix will cause the ground textures to split wherever Mountain meets Beach directly, if tessellation is enabled.

About Available Versions

I keep all of my uploaded files marked (on the Files page) with their packing date and version of the MBINCompiler I used to pack it. Any older mod that is no longer compatible with the current version of No Man's Sky will be demoted to the "Old Files" subsection, but will remain available for download. If I have missed one, please tell me.

This means that any mod files which are not hidden or demoted to the "Old Files" area can be expected to work.

MBINCompiler versions exactly match the version of No Man's Sky that was current when the MBINCompiler was made. In other words, MBINCompiler version = NMS version. This fact can be used to figure out which Legacy mods work with which Legacy versions of No Man's Sky.

Hello Games for making the wonderful, vast, and fun game, No Man's Sky!

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Exosolar's and Babs' Grass Fix is a visual overhaul for No Man's Sky that makes grass denser, taller, and more natural on slopes. It also scales up flora and crystals to match, and adds a render distance toggle tied to Planet Detail settings. Not compatible with biome-changing mods like Redmas's Fantasy.

✨ Key Features

Increases grass density and height, and makes it grow normally on slopes.
Scales flowers, trees, shrubbery, and resource crystals by 1.5x, with density adjusted inversely.
Adds a render range toggle: Standard/Enhanced/High use short range, Ultra uses long range.
Re-randomizes flora species and positions as a side effect.
Incompatible with biome-changing mods like Redmas's Fantasy or WoodyMontana's Better Planet Generation.
May cause ground texture splits at mountain-beach borders if tessellation is enabled.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community favorite with 1,756 endorsements and nearly 90k downloads — clearly fills a need.
  • Makes grass look lush and full, fixing the patchy, unconvincing vanilla coverage.
  • Gives you control over render distance via Planet Detail settings, so you can balance looks and performance.

⚠️ Cons

  • Breaks compatibility with popular biome mods like Redmas's Fantasy and Better Planet Generation — plan your mod list around it.
  • Re-randomizes flora placement, so your familiar landscapes will change.
  • Tessellation can cause ugly ground texture splits where mountains meet beaches — you may need to disable tessellation.
🎯 Is This For You?
For No Man's Sky players who want a more vibrant, dense planetary surface without overhauling the whole game. Perfect if you're tired of sparse, patchy grass and want a quick visual upgrade. Skip if you use biome-changing mods or prefer a more performance-friendly setup.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Place the mod's .pak file in the GAMEDATA\PCBANKS\MODS folder — create the MODS folder if it doesn't exist.
  • If you use biome mods, test them together — this mod will conflict and may cause issues.
  • Adjust Planet Detail to Ultra for the longer grass render range, or lower for better performance.
