📋 About This Mod
Overview
This mod aims to improve upon flawed pieces of player dialogue. These range from the player being rude regardless of whether you're good or not, stupid-sounding sentences, and many other improvements.List of changes
Fallout 3 (Tale of Two Wastelands)
One of the main offenders of Fallout 3's writing is the player dialogue, which has a tendency to come off as either unavoidably hostile (e.g., compansion dismissal), its high-intelligence dialogue sometimes coming off as stating the obvious (e.g. "So you fight the Good Fight with your voice on GNR"), or simply straight-up cheesy and laughable at times. The main objective of this mod is to improve upon these kinds of dialogue.
-
[]As mentioned before, player dialogue that comes up as forcibly harsh and insensitive, dialogue that makes the player sound naive, and other cringe-worthy and weird pieces of player dialogue have been greatly improved and rewritten.
[
]Changed the dialogue when dismissing a companion to sound much more nicer and less like treating them as expendable henchmen.[]Improved the infamously vague description of the Lone Wanderer's father in Megaton so he/she is actually more specific about James' appearance. ("Middle aged-man from Vault 101" instead of "Middle-aged guy", there's about dozens of people in Megaton who look middle-aged).
[]Improved plenty of speech dialogue so they come off as more convincing.
[]Improved intelligence checks so it sounds way less like dialogue that makes you go "No shit, Sherlock".
[]Changed some of the dialogue to exclude nomenclature that wouldn't make sense for someone who is recently out of a Vault, for example meeting with Gob and calling him a ghoul when you don't even know about the term yet.
[]Optional player dialogue that usually has the NPC chew the player out for being dumb now requires low amounts of intelligence. (e.g., mistaking a monarch as in butterfly instead of king to Dave when talking about his father)
[]Added an extended version of the Vault 101 scouting report, explaining how you know about the bottle cap currency and raiders to make up for the lack of an in-universe explanation.
[]Added a third, neutral option for "Activate A3-21 Recall Code Violet".
[]Some minor dialogue tweaks.
New Vegas
While Fallout 3 tends to be criticized for the frequent questionable writings in player dialogue, New Vegas' player dialogue isn't perfect, either.
[]Rewritten parts of the low-intelligence dialogue to sound less caveman-like, matching with NV's new style of low-intelligence dialogue.
[]Changed the dialogue when talking to Joshua and the shaman in Honest Hearts so the Courier sounds less clueless. The original dialogue is kept for low-intelligence Couriers, however.
