📋 About This Mod

This mod is the counterpart to my TTW Interior Optimization Project and tries to optimize New Vegas with room markers and in rare cases occlusion planes. Now you might be wondering: doesn't Extended Roombounds already do this? Technically, yes, but its scope is much more limited, as even the full version covers only a grand total of 40 cells throughout the whole game. And I don't think I need to point out that New Vegas has more than 40 buildings that players can enter.

My mod, on the other hand, covers about 240 cells and serves as a complete replacement for ExRB. And since the permission of that mod were closed, I had to recreate everything from scratch, so it's not compatible with existing patches. My mod also covers the DLCs, though I didn't have too much to do there, as most of the cells were already well optimized. One notable exception being the Tampico in Dead Money, where someone apparently preferred to build a wall of room markers and portals along the second floor instead of extending the corridors to make it easier to optimize. But since I couldn't change the layout for this mod either, I had to make some finnicky changes to improve the optimization.

Most of the cells I've covered didn't have any optimization at all, however. And many that were already optimized could be optimized even further. And in a few rare cases, I simply fixed vanilla issues, like the portals on Benny's Floor stretching to the heavens. And since I've checked every single cell multiple times to assess their optimization potential, it's unlikely that I'm going to add anything else.

However, unlike with my TTW mod, I cannot provide good performance benchmarks, as I have a much more powerful system now. And while I did provide some comparison screenshots nonetheless, those are not vanilla vs. mod comparisons! All of them were taken with New Vegas Reloaded (Uranium Haze), as that's the only way for me to degrade my performance enough to notice a meaningful difference in FPS.

While I've tested each cell extensively; hugging every wall and corner, swaying from side to side like I was drunk, and consulting the mini map to make sure I've actually checked everywhere (admittedly not very useful when there's verticality involved), I can't guarantee that's it's 100% bug free. Especially since some occlusion bugs are only visible from specific locations and angles. Some places were also very finnicky to optimize, like the terrible Vault22d, which has so little  space between its first and second floor that the room markers in the  vanilla game were overlapping one another.

I've also stumbled upon what seems like an engine bug at the last second, where water placed within the confines of a room marker no longer reacts to movement unless the water also contains a portal connected to the current room. So I had to check every single cell to add portals where required, which hopefully sho
