📋 About This Mod
Neutral Weathers adjusts and rebalances the weathers of Desert Natural Weathers for use with New Vegas Reloaded (NVR)’s Tonemapping shader, which adds a proper high-quality linear-color tonemapper to New Vegas, handling blown-out highlights while preserving contrast. NVR otherwise provides numerous graphical enhancements to New Vegas, including shadows, godrays, new water shaders and more.
With Neutral Weathers, brightness and color are more unified across the various weathers and image spaces, with consistent luminance and neutral color sunlight blended into the image. Skies are rebalanced with matching brightness for sunrise, daylight and sunset, better suited for the linear sky shaders of NVR. Any cinematic modifiers to brightness, contrast and saturation have been neutralised, black-raising fades removed and various tints unified into a standard New Vegas (and Fallout 3 for TTW) tint, multiplied into luminance by NVR and blended in linear color.
The intended result is a natural contrast with a light tint, dark yet vibrant nights and more colorful, blue skies. A preset is provided for New Vegas Reloaded that prioritises a vanilla-like image featuring better tonemapping and effects in SDR. Additionally the more linearised brightness levels allow better scalability in HDR, with an HDR preset provided tuned for 800 nit displays (TBD).
Key Changes
- Standardised the brightness of weathers and image spaces, for a consistent and reliable luminance level in SDR and HDR. Sunlight/diffuse lighting has been raised significantly from vanilla values, creating true HDR highlights that can be properly tonemapped to SDR for greater dynamic range.
- Removed all saturation, brightness, contrast and bloom modifications across image spaces, for a stable, cleaner and preset-balanceable image
- Adjusted clouds to reduce grain and artifacts, improve/fix transparency in NVR, balance midtones and fix brightness levels with the NVR Sky Shader
- Rebalanced skies with consistent brightness levels and adjusted coloring, with deeper blues influenced by Desert Natural Realism
- Improved night contrast, with darker nights for most displays, darker stars/skybox, rebalanced fog and higher brightness for light sources
- Neutralised sunlight color to pure white at day for most non-special weathers, creating more neutral color hue for linear color blending
- Rebalanced sunlight and ambient levels to allow HDR highlights and to improve SDR tonemapping
- Adjusted near-fog distance to allow a more colorful and natural foreground, with overall fog rebalanced for NVR volumetric fog + vanilla fog removal
- Rebalanced bloom to reduce oversaturation, color-shifting and overblown highlights in both SDR and HDR
- Unified the brightness of the skin shader to ensure universally sane NPC/player brightness
- Adjusted all DLCs, notably with corrected cloud tex
