📋 About This Mod
"When the sun rises near one of the constellations, it is that constellation's season. Each constellation has a Season of approximately one month." -Ffoulke, The Firmament
Window to Aetherius replaces the night sky with one that changes as the game year progresses (thanks to Lua script by @Greatness7 ). On day one of every month, the prime constellation will be visible on the eastern horizon and fades away to the next month's constellation as the month progresses. The mod features a fully hand-painted texture including nebulae and stars, with the positions of the constellations derived from the star map included in The Elder Scrolls Adventures Redguard.
This mod was a labour of love that I waited nine years to be possible. I spent two months painstakingly painting the texture in Photoshop with purpose-made custom brushes. As of release, there is nothing out there for Morrowind like it. I hope you all enjoy it!
A note: since it will take an entire ingame year for the entire sky to be visible, most players will probably not see the whole sky over a playthrough. Because of this, I recommend using some mods which increase the ingame time a playthrough will take. Here are some suggestions:
Time Consumer
Dynamic Timescale
Spawn on a Certain Day
REQUIRES: MWSE Lua
OpenMw may be possible in the future once the sky is de-hardcoded or Lua support improves but afaik it is not possible right now.
Window to Aetherius is a Morrowind mod that replaces the night sky with a dynamic, month-by-month cycle using MWSE. It offers a subtle but immersive change for players who want the sky to reflect the passage of time. With 298 endorsements and regular updates, it's a well-received cosmetic enhancement.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 298 endorsements and over 8,000 downloads—clearly a hit among Morrowind players.
- Adds a fresh layer of immersion by making the night sky reflect the in-game month, which is a creative twist.
- Lightweight and purely cosmetic, so it won't mess with your gameplay or performance.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires MWSE, so you'll need to set that up first if you haven't already—it's an extra step.
- Only changes the night sky; if you're looking for more comprehensive visual overhauls, this won't cover day skies or weather.
- Last updated in May 2023—might not be compatible with the latest Morrowind patches or MWSE versions, so check before installing.
For Morrowind players who want a subtle but immersive touch that makes the world feel more alive. If you're into role-playing and tracking in-game time, this mod is a must-have. Skip it if you prefer a static sky or don't want to bother with MWSE dependencies.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure MWSE is installed and up to date before adding this mod, as it won't work without it.
- Use a mod manager like Mod Organizer 2 to keep your Morrowind mods organized and avoid conflicts.
- Test the mod by waiting in-game for a month to see the sky change—if it doesn't, double-check your MWSE installation.
