📋 About This Mod

Spell Memory

A MWSE mod that adds spell memorization mechanics to Morrowind, with memory scaling from Player Level, Intelligence and Willpower. Memorized spells can receive a cast chance bonus, while unmemorized spells can receive a penalty. It also includes a quick-select menu for readying memorized spells.

Alternatively, for players who mainly want a quick spell selector, set the memory sliders high, such as 255, and memorize many more spells. Spell Memory can then act like a clean quick-select menu without scrolling through the normal spellbook.

Memorizing Spells:

Spells show their memory cost directly in the Magic menu. Hover a spell and press the Spell Memory keybind, Default: Shift + R, to memorize or forget it. By default, memorizing and forgetting spells can only be done while in a town or city.

Quick-Select Menu:

Hold the Spell Memory hotkey, Default: Shift + R, to open a quick menu of memorized spells. Hover the spell you want, then release the key to ready it.

Memorized spell data is stored per save.

Default Calculations

Spell memory cost is based on the spell's magicka cost.

0–19 magicka cost = 1 memory

20–49 magicka cost = 2 memory

50–99 magicka cost = 3 memory

100–179 magicka cost = 4 memory

180+ magicka cost = 5 memory

Available memory is based on your character level, Intelligence, and Willpower.

By default, the level cap scales from 10 memory at level 1 to 50 memory at level 100. Intelligence has the strongest effect on how much of that cap you can use, with Willpower contributing a smaller amount.

With default settings, low Intelligence and Willpower can reduce your available memory, but never below a certain threshold. This is configurable in the MCM.

At level 1 with 1 Intelligence and 1 Willpower, you will have 6 memory by default.

At level 100 with 100 Intelligence and 100 Willpower, you will have 50 memory by default.

Benefits and Penalties:

Memorized spells receive +25% cast chance relative to its base chance, by default.

Unmemorized spells receive -15% cast chance relative to its base chance, by default.

Spells can only be memorized or forgotten in towns and cities by default.

Note: I have only tested this with "UI Expansion" mod installed, though this should still work with the Vanilla Morrowind UI. "UI Expansion" is a great mod to have, anyway.

Requirements

- Morrowind

- MGE XE / MWSE

MWSE is commonly installed through MGE XE.

Not designed for OpenMW.

Note: If using UI Expansion, I recommend either disabling its "Auto-select search bar" feature or giving Spell Memory
