📋 About This Mod
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This mod provides 62 high-bitrate .wav files providing sound effects for
each of the 'schools' of magic in Morrowind, as well as enchantments.
These specific 'spell effect' sounds come from Morrowind Acoustic Overhaul
(or MAO), by PeterBitt https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/users/4381248
In addition, I've added a variety of additional spell effect sounds -- as far as
I can tell, these were made by Bethesda and released for the base game, but never
actually used within Morrowind. They are included here as a modder's resource.
I got the unused sound files from Spell Sounds Enhanced, by Morthrug

2. Installation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First, back-up your Data Files/Sounds/Fx/Magic folder.
Then download, extract, replace all, done.
Or just use your preferred mod organizer (I recommend Mod Organizer 2).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. Uninstallation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Replace your Data Files/Sounds/Fx/Magic folder with the files you backed up.
Or remove this from your mod list in Mod Organizer 2 or Wrye Mash.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4. Compatibility
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is totally compatible with AURA, Character Sound Overhaul, and MUSE.
If a mod changes the 'spell sound ID' for magic spells, this mod won't work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
None of these sounds belong to me. MAO belongs to PeterBitt. Since the original
files are no longer available for download on Google Drive, I'm making them
available as a general resource for anyone, like me, who prefers the MAO sounds
but is looking to update their game with the latest MWSE-Lua audio mods.
MAO Spell Sounds adds 62 high-bitrate .wav files to Morrowind, giving distinct sound effects for each school of magic and enchantments. These sounds originate from the Morrowind Acoustic Overhaul (MAO) by Publicola. It's a straightforward audio enhancement for players who want more immersive spellcasting.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Decent community support with 374 endorsements.
- High-bitrate .wav files ensure clear audio quality.
- Covers all magic schools and enchantments for complete audio coverage.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2021, so may not be compatible with newer mod setups.
- Only audio changes—no gameplay or visual improvements.
For Morrowind players who want to enhance the auditory experience of magic without altering gameplay. If you're a roleplayer or immersion enthusiast, this mod adds satisfying spell sounds. Skip if you prefer gameplay overhauls or don't care about sound fidelity.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Place the .wav files in your Morrowind Data Files folder, or use a mod manager like Wrye Mash for easier installation.
- Check if you have the Morrowind Acoustic Overhaul installed, as these sounds are from that mod—though it's not required.
- If you use OpenMW, ensure the mod is compatible with your setup, as OpenMW handles sound files differently.
