📋 About This Mod

Mod adds tier-based critical chance and critical damage to weapons, inspired by Oblivion and Skyrim mechanics. It does not conflict with vanilla critical hits; if a vanilla critical occurs, the mod ignores that hit and does not apply its

Reasoning

Vanilla Morrowind critical hits exist, but their mechanics are poorly communicated to the player. Luck affects critical hits, yet this influence is never explained, and the role of weapon skill and weapon type in critical damage remains unclear.

This mod introduces a clear, tier-based critical hit system inspired by Oblivion and Skyrim, making critical behavior transparent and predictable while preserving vanilla mechanics and avoiding excessive damage spikes from stacked critical sources.

Overview

This mod adds a tier-based critical hit system for weapons.

For the player and NPCs, critical chance and critical damage depend on weapon skill, Luck, weapon type, and internal weapon speed. Weapon skills are divided into four tiers:

Tier         Weapon Skill   Crit chance

---------------------------------------

Novice       1–24           0%

Apprentice   25–49          5–12%

Journeyman   50–74          10–21%

Expert       75+            15–30%

Luck affects critical chance linearly within each tier and is clamped between 40 and 100. Values below or above this range do not further affect critical chance.

Critical damage scales independently from critical chance. Faster and more precise weapons such as short blades, bows, and thrown weapons reach higher critical multipliers, while heavier weapons scale more conservatively. Arrows and bolts do not apply their own multipliers; all critical logic is resolved at the weapon level.

Weapon skill            Apprentice   Journeyman   Expert

--------------------------------------------------------

Hand to Hand            200%         300%         400%

Short Blade             200%         300%         400%

Marksman Bow            180%         240%         300%

Marksman Thrown         180%         240%         300%

Long Blade One-handed   150%         175%         200%

Blunt One-handed        150%         175%         200%

Axe One-handed          150%         175%         200%

Marksman Crossbow       150%         175%         200%

Long Blade Two-handed   120%         140%         160%

Blunt Two-handed        120%         140%         160%

Axe Two-handed          120%         140%         160%

Spear                   120%         140%         160%

If a hit is affected by a vanilla critical multiplier, the mod detects this case and prevents excessive stacking. When both vanilla and mod criticals occur on the same attack, the higher damage result is used. This avoids extreme “double crit” scenarios, especially at high Luck values.

Creatures use a separate system. Their critical chance scales linearly with level, from 5–10% at level 1 to 15–30% at level 20, with Luck applied afterward using the
