📋 About This Mod

Mix and match the game's two portrait styles per character. Requires BepInEx 5 (x64) and Fippsie's Texture Swap Framework.

Description

These packs let you mix and match the default painterly style (1) and the anime-style alternative (2) per character.

Prefer the painterly style but want the anime men? Done. Or the other way around. Any combination works.

Every dialogue portrait from both styles has been extracted and organized into per-character folders for Fippsie's Texture Swap Framework.

How it works

Fippsie's Portrait Swap matches images by the game's original file names, and which file names the game asks for depends on your portrait style choice in Settings. So each pack is named by direction:

  • []2-to-1: Style 2 (anime) art, shown when your Settings are on Style 1.[/]

[]1-to-2: Style 1 (painterly) art, shown when your Settings are on Style 2.[/]

You can have folders from 2-to-1, 1-to-2, and your own edited originals installed at the same time, as long as the same character's same file names don't overlap. Which ones display depends on your Settings, so you can toggle between styles freely. Any changes to files require a game restart.

Installation instructions

1. Install Fippsie's Texture Swap Framework (which requires BepInEx 5).

(Read their instructions carefully to understand how it works. Confirm it runs before adding pictures from this pack.)

2. Download the pack(s) for the swap direction you want (see above).

3. Drag the folders for the characters you want swapped into Fippsie's Replacements folder:

Steam\steamapps\common\Moonlight Peaks\BepInEx\plugins\MoonlightPeaks. FippsiesTextureSwap\Replacements The mod reads subfolders, so you can drop entire character folders in whole.

4. IMPORTANT: do NOT rename the .png files. The mod matches the game's original file names exactly, glorious typos and all (yes, your game requires Elvira's apparent alter-ego "Levira" and vanpires, vampirs, and vampiures). Folder names don't matter to the mod, only the file names do.

To revert a character, delete their folder and restart.

Under Optional Files: both styles' untouched original portraits ("Originals - For Editing") for anyone who wants to make edits. On their own these do nothing - they're identical to what the game already shows.

Known issues

  • []One-way portraits. A few portraits exist in Style 1 but have no Style 2 counterpart (for example, some seemingly one-off NPCs only exist in style 1). Everything from the game files is included, but for these there is nothing to swap to - I'm not far enough in the game to know if they simply display Style 1 regardless of Settings, and at least one of them is an unused asset.[/]

[]SPOILER RISK. Portrait variants and their file names reveal story content, including character forms and later-introduced game characters. Browse the files with caution if you're not far into the game.[/]

Requirements

BepInEx 5 (x64) and Fippsie's Texture Swap Framework

Looking for the version of this pack for Serena's Portrait Replacer instead? See Mix and Match Portrait Packs (For Serena's). The difference: Serena's Portrait Replacer uses its own file naming and overrides portraits so your chosen replacements always show, regardless of the style picked in Settings. Fippsie's Portrait Swap uses the game's original file naming and follows your Settings choice, showing different files depending on the style selected (though Serena's Portrait Replacer can now also read original file names).

Compatibility with Serena's Portrait Replacer

  • []If you want to use both mods for portraits, you must set RawNameMatching = false in the config file for Serena's Portrait Replacer.[/]

[]Based on my testing, Serena's Portrait Replacer and Fippsie's Portrait Swap can be used at the same time without issues. Each character displays according to whichever mod's logic covers them — no errors or crashes. Just avoid having the exact same characters with the same original file names between the two mods.[/]
