📋 About This Mod
Originally based off of StageNRyu's mod for base world (see credits), I have added many more effects to enhance just about every move in the moveset. Most are efx from monsters (as well as some generic thump efx used by other weapons), and have been relocated and renamed in order to ensure compatibility with mods that may alter these efx. Some, however, have been edited and are now considered "custom," so please contact me first before using any of the efx in this mod just to be safe. Feel free to dm me (either here on Nexus or on Discord @Shulk972, faster response with Discord) if you are interested in creating a custom version of this for yourself (I will not do this for you, and do not distribute or post to Nexus without my permission) or you have suggestions for alternate versions. Updates on progress on versions can be found in the sticky in the discussion tab.
Remember to endorse if you're enjoying this mod. Only takes 1 click :)
Please give me any and all feedback you have about my mods. You can either post a comment here or dm me. Alternatively, check the posts for the "Community Sticky" I will sometimes have up for gathering specific community opinions. Thanks in advance!
Available versions:
Definitive - Complete (My original vision for this mod. Gives charging animations and impacts extra oomph.) (Represented by ENHANCED gifs on images page)
Definitive - Impacts Only (Requested by users. Same as the Definitive - Complete, but doesn't touch the charging animations.)
Hybrid - Definitive slams with Lite charging efx (For those who love the big slams of the Definitive version, but wish the charging animations weren't quite so intense.)
Lite - Complete (Requested by users. A toned down version of Definitive - Complete for those who still want more oomph out of their greatsword efx, but think the Definitive is a bit much. Essentially backs up all efx by one level. THIS IS STILL AN INCREASE IN THE INTENSITY OF EFFECTS COMPARED TO VANILLA)
Lite - Impacts Only (Figured users would want it. Lite version, but only affects the impacts efx, ignoring the charging animations.)
Make sure to download Stracker's Loader. This mod, and most others, simply do not work without it because Iceborne won't load them.
Installation (same as all MHW mods):
1. download file (duh)
3. place nativePC folder in the same location as MonsterHunterWorld.exe
v1. 0. 1 - renamed original file to Enhanced GS EFX Definitive - Complete, and added Definitive - Impacts Only, Lite - Complete, and Lite - Impacts Only versions
v1. 0. 0 - It's go time, baby
*key - n.n. X is bug fix/clerical, n. X.n is feature-based, X.n.n is massive overhaul
Special thanks:
StageNRyu from DMQW modding group for letting me use their mod as a base
Crimson - invaluable in teaching me how to edit in hex, as well as ins and outs of efx files, also helped me make wp00_lvl1charge
Jodo and Vuze - chunk extraction tools
Crow - testing and brotherhood in the hunt
Enhanced Greatsword EFX is a visual overhaul for Monster Hunter: World that improves charge attack animations and impacts for the Greatsword, using in-game effects to preserve the vanilla feel. It does not alter damage values, making it a purely cosmetic enhancement for players who want more impactful visuals.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 2,446 endorsements and over 56k downloads.
- Keeps the vanilla feel by using in-game effects, so it won't clash with the game's aesthetic.
- Pure visual upgrade—no gameplay impact, so you don't have to worry about balance changes.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in January 2020—may not be compatible with the latest game updates or DLC.
- Only affects the Greatsword, so other weapon users won't see any benefit.
For Monster Hunter: World players who main the Greatsword and want more dramatic charge attacks without changing gameplay. If you're a visual purist who wants to keep the game's original feel, this is a safe bet. Skip if you use other weapons or want actual gameplay changes.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to place the mod files in the correct directory (usually 'nativePC' in your Monster Hunter: World folder).
- If you're using a mod manager, you can install it directly, but manual installation is straightforward.
- Since it's a visual mod, it won't affect your save or online play, but always back up your original files just in case.
