Squaddie Veterancy

There we go, I finally did it, what nobody ever asked for.

Individual squaddies gain experience through combat and successful missions. As they gain experience, their squad develops from inexperienced Green troops into Combat Tested, Regular and Veteran soldiers.

Persistent veterancy

- Experience is stored per individual squaddie.

- XP is saved separately for each MENACE save.

- Existing campaigns are supported.

- Replacements and casualties naturally retain their own individual experience history.

Veterancy ranks

- Green: 0-249 XP

- Combat Tested: 250-999 XP

- Regular: 1000-1999 XP

- Veteran: 2000+ XP

Experience gain

- Perform an attack: +1 XP

- Kill an enemy element: +5 XP

- Be targeted by an enemy attack: +10 XP

- Complete a primary objective: +25 XP

- Complete a secondary objective: +10 XP

Mission objective XP is awarded to deployed player squads after a successful mission.

Veterancy effects

- Lower accuracy

- Lower defense

- Lower suppression resistance

- Lower concealment

- Higher chance to fail to fire

Combat Tested

- Smaller penalties

- Improved reliability

- Baseline combat performance

- Improved accuracy

- Improved defense

- Improved suppression resistance

- Improved concealment

- Highest reliability

Squad HP also increases with veterancy.

Reliability

Individual squaddies can fail to fire depending on their experience level.

Default failure chances:

- Green: 10%

- Combat Tested: 5%

- Regular: 2%

- Veteran: 0%

Suppression can further reduce reliability.

The mod always keeps at least one valid shooter if the whole squad would otherwise fail to fire, preventing invalid empty attacks.

Enemy veterancy

Enemy squaddies receive temporary veterancy ranks for each battle.

Default hostile profile:

- Green: 70%

- Combat Tested: 25%

- Regular: 5%

- Veteran: 0%

Rogue Army profile:

- Green: 20%

- Combat Tested: 30%

- Regular: 30%

- Veteran: 20%

Enemy veterancy is temporary and is not saved between missions.

Squad veterancy is displayed next to the unit health bar.

- Green: army green service bar

- Combat Tested: brass chevron

- Regular: silver chevron

- Veteran: double gold chevron

The displayed rank represents the average veterancy of the squad.

Most systems can be configured through MENACE Mod Options, including:

- Suppression reliability penalty

- HP bonuses

- Accuracy modifiers

- Defense modifiers

- Suppression resistance modifiers

- Veterancy HUD markers

COMPATIBILITY

Designed to work alongside:

- Coordinated Fire

- Overwatch

- Visibility Overhaul

- Squad Size Modifiers

Overwatch is completely optional.

Squad Size Modifiers compatibility is handled by applying the veterancy suppression modifier on top of the value already calculated by the other mod rather than replacing it.

Visibility-related veterancy changes are similarly applied without requiring Visibility Overhaul.

Squaddie Veterancy does not modify the MENACE save file directly.

Persistent XP is stored in a separate sidecar file under:

Menace/UserData/SquaddieProbe/Saves/

Each MENACE save receives its own veterancy data.

INSTALLATION

Requires MENACE Modpack Loader.

Extract the mod into your MENACE Mods folder following the standard Modpack Loader installation method.
