📋 About This Mod
Overwatch - Reaction Fire for Infantry and Vehicles
Short description
Adds XCOM-style Overwatch to MENACE. Spend remaining AP to prepare reaction shots against enemies that finish movement in range. Supports infantry, vehicles, multiple reactions, AI Overwatch, Coordinated Fire and optional Alpha Strike integration.
Full Nexus description
Overwatch
Adds a proper reaction-fire / Overwatch system to MENACE for both infantry and vehicles.
Instead of spending every action point during your activation, you can commit your remaining AP to Overwatch. If an eligible enemy finishes a movement inside your weapon's range and firing conditions are met, your unit automatically fires.
The system uses the game's native attacks, ammo, hit chance, line of sight and weapon behavior wherever possible.
Features
Infantry Overwatch
Choose which weapon you want to prepare:
-
[]INF — squad weapon [/]
[]SPECIAL — leader/special weapon [/]
[]BOTH — use both weapons when Coordinated Fire is installed [/]
For example:
Carbine: out of range
Machine gun: valid
→ Machine gun fires
Both weapons do not need to qualify for the reaction.
If both are valid, both fire.
Multiple reaction shots
Available Overwatch reactions are calculated from the unit's remaining AP and the selected weapon's attack cost.
90 AP remaining
Weapon costs 40 AP
→ 2 Overwatch reactions
Activating Overwatch commits the unit's remaining AP and ends its activation.
BOTH, the reaction cost is based on the more expensive selected weapon.
Vehicle Overwatch
Vehicles can also use Overwatch.
Vehicle support can be enabled or disabled independently in Mod Settings.
For vehicles with multiple available attacks, you can select which weapon should be used for Overwatch.
Machine Gun
Rocket Launcher
Reaction count is calculated from the selected vehicle weapon's AP cost exactly like infantry.
AI Overwatch
Enemy AI can also reserve remaining AP for Overwatch.
AI Overwatch has its own configurable hit-chance threshold and can be disabled entirely.
Vehicle AI Overwatch can also be enabled or disabled separately.
The AI will only reserve Overwatch if it ends its activation with enough AP, ammunition and a suitable ranged attack.
Final-tile reaction system
Overwatch does not interrupt movement on an intermediate animation tile.
The enemy completes its movement first, then Overwatch evaluates the enemy's final tile.
This avoids reaction shots targeting stale or temporary positions during movement.
Hit chance and accuracy penalty
Overwatch uses normal MENACE hit-chance calculations, with a configurable accuracy penalty.
Overwatch accuracy penalty: -10 percentage points
The reaction only occurs if the resulting hit chance reaches the configured threshold.
Player and AI thresholds can be configured separately.
Civilians and allies
Player-controlled Overwatch will not fire at civilians or allied factions.
Protected factions include:
Allied Local Forces
Hostile factions can still behave according to their own Overwatch logic.
Coordinated Fire compatibility
Overwatch is designed to coexist with Coordinated Fire.
When Coordinated Fire is detected, infantry units with both a squad weapon and a special weapon gain the optional:
Overwatch mode.
Each weapon retains its own:
-
[]range [/]
[]line of sight [/]
[]hit chance [/]
[]ammunition [/]
[]eligibility [/]
If both can fire, both fire sequentially while consuming a single Overwatch reaction.
Alpha Strike compatibility
Vehicle Overwatch includes optional compatibility with Alpha Strike.
If Alpha Strike is installed and a compatible native Alpha Strike action is exposed by the vehicle, Overwatch can use that action rather than recreating Alpha Strike's behavior.
This allows Alpha Strike itself to remain responsible for its weapon interaction, ammo and special effects.
