What is the Expanded Universe - Mod Menu?
To put it simply, the Expanded Universe Mod Menu is a way of tracking what books and comics you've read, what games you've played and what films you've watched for the Mass Effect franchise. Mod authors can then use these plot checks to tailor their mods around what expanded universe content the player has used.
How might this be used?
Someone might replace Kai Leng with someone else if players haven't read Mass Effect: Retribution, or they might trim out all references to Paul Grayson from dialogue under the same condition. With Spectre Expansion Mod, I'm intending to lock off some of the planets that are from novels or films. There's a lot of potential here, I don't want to speculate to the myriad of ways it could be used.
At this time no mod requires this, but in due time all my mods will make use of it in some fashion. With any luck, others will make use of it too. I will be including an article which contains all relevant plot data for mods to use.
