📋 About This Mod
There are several mods that tweaks the food spoilage rate, but they are either outdated, never worked or changes the rate too much for my liking.
So I made my own.
I wanted spoilage to still be a factor, but ease up on the timelimit a bit since I also use other mods that makes keeping fed more of a challenge.
Which makes the default spoil rates more of an issue than it is in the vanilla game.
I found 2 times longer spoiling to be a nice balance, easier while still feeling fairly realistic and still being something to be mindful of.
Which I think might be nice for people playing more vanilla as well.
And as others might struggle to find a working mod with rates that suits them I decided to release it.
I considered doing some tweaking of rates relative to other foods as well, as some foods should spoil slower and faster comparatively than they do.
But figuring out which food is which takes more work than simply multiplying the times, and I don't care enough to do that, but I might if there's interest in it.
Installation:
Just like most mods, put the extracted folder into the Mods folder among the game files.
Alternate Food Spoil (2X) is a lightweight mod that doubles food spoilage times in 7 Days to Die, offering a balanced alternative to other spoilage mods. It's for players who find vanilla rates too punishing, especially when using other difficulty mods. Simple drop-in installation.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 197 endorsements and over 7,000 downloads
- Fills a niche for players who want a moderate spoilage tweak, not extreme changes
- Actively maintained, last updated May 2024
⚠️ Cons
- Only doubles spoilage times; no per-food adjustments, so some foods may spoil unrealistically
- Author notes they might tweak individual rates if there's interest, but hasn't yet
- No compatibility notes for other spoilage mods or game versions
For 7 Days to Die players who find vanilla food spoilage too harsh, especially those using mods that increase hunger. Also good for vanilla players who want a bit more breathing room without removing the spoilage mechanic entirely. Skip if you want a complete overhaul of food spoilage rates.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to extract the folder so the mod files are directly inside the Mods folder, not nested in a zip.
- If you're using other mods that affect food or hunger, test the spoilage times in a new game to see if the balance feels right.
- This mod is client-side, so it works in single-player and on dedicated servers if installed on the server.
