📋 About This Mod

A loadout pack that focuses on recreating historical and HEMA-related training weapons

This is a small loadout pack that aims to recreate real training weapons used in historical fencing, giving you the option to fight with blunted less-than-lethal weapons if you so choose. Some weapons in this pack are based on modern fencing swords, while others are based on real surviving training weapons from roughly the time period Half Sword is set. This is also an experiment for me, to get to grasps with how Half Sword's custom loadout system functions. Currently, this pack has five completed loadouts that come with nice outfits and a backup rondel dagger in case things go bad.

UPDATE: There has been yet another balancing and scaling enhancement. This one has been a bit longer in the works, but there were some major issues with the way the feders were presented before. They were overall too large, oversized guards, very long blades and extremely heavy. This resulted in feders that packed a major punch, but were closer to greatswords than longswords. With this new update, every feder (apart from the arming sword, I'm happy with that one) has been completely resized and rebalanced to more accurately simulate the weapon they're designed after. Shorter blades have removed the range advantage, and a more reasonably sized guard has reduced the overall weight to prevent them from feeling like they weigh a ton.

1. Longsword federschwert

The most popular of training weapons, Federschwert styled after longswords such as this have been used by aspiring sport fencers and experienced masters for hundreds of years, and now it comes to Half Sword. Blunted edges and a flattened tip will ensure you wont cut or stab your enemies, but be aware, this is still a very large bar of iron with a lot of leverage. Despite being a "safe" training weapon, feders can knock enemies unconcious or even kill them all the way up to the highest tier. This style of feder comes with a "schilt", which is the enlarged part of the blade near the crossguard. This plate acts as additional hand protection, catching incoming attacks and redirecting them away from the hands. I am of the opinion that this looks fantastic, pretty much exactly what I had originally wanted to achieve, but there is one small issue...

There is no pommel. In order to have enough components to recreate the schilt, something had to be sacrificed. This is true for every sword with a schilt. This is just cosmetics however, and you'll notice that the gauntlets that come with this type of feder cover up the missing pommel entirely when held normally. Big thanks to BitterRelative for giving me a ton of help getting this working properly, Half Sword modding is a pain in the ass and I probably wouldn't have been able to figure this out without him. 2. Arming sword federschwert + buckler

While there are no existing historical examples of a federschwert equivalent of an arming sword to my knowledge, these tools have gained popularity in a modern HEMA context as an accurate trainer for arming swords. Much like its larger longsword cousin, it has a flattened tip and blunted edges, but it is a far smaller weapon, allowing it to be used in conjuntion with an offhand weapon like the buckler. Keep in mind that edge alignment and good cuts will are important with this weapon. It is hard to fight with a blunted arming sword since it heavily relies on the momentum instead of cutting, but this makes it a good teaching tool for proper distancing when using 1-handed weapons.

3. Longsword federschwert (no schilt)

This is essentially the same weapon as the first feder longsword, but some slight adjustments have been made for the sake of cosmetics. The main appeal of this version is that it has a proper pommel. This particular sword is styled after modern sporting feders, as most historical training longswords have some form of schilt, but there are a few notable feder manufacturers that produce swords without one. Since it lacks a schilt completely, this blade is slightly lighter than its variants.

4. Historical Swiss federschwert

This is a slightly different design of the feder with the schilt, but instead of resembling more modern sporting feders, this one is designed after a specific surviving example from the Swiss National Landesmuseum (shown below). This particular feder has a wider and less slanted schilt, allowing for it to catch blades more easily than the other feders. Otherwise, this is a sidegrade to the first feder
