⚠️ Troubleshooting

GTA V crashes to a pop-up that says 'FATAL: Unknown game version'

Script Hook V is too old for your game build — every GTA V update breaks the previous Script Hook V. Download the newest Script Hook V from Alexander Blade, replace ScriptHookV.dll, and update any .asi mods that bundle their own scripts.

My .asi mods (trainers, menus) do nothing in-game

The ASI loader isn't running or the file is misplaced. Make sure both dinput8.dll (the ASI loader that ships with Script Hook V) and the .asi file sit directly in the Grand Theft Auto V root folder next to GTA5.exe, not inside a subfolder.

I installed a mod with OpenIV but the game looks exactly the same

If you used OpenIV's mods folder, you must start the game with OpenIV's green play button — launching from Steam, Epic, or the Rockstar Launcher bypasses the mods folder and runs the clean original archives.

OpenIV reports that the ASI Manager is not enabled

Open OpenIV's game settings and turn on the ASI Manager so OpenIV installs its ASI loader into the game; ASI-based mods silently do nothing until this is enabled.

The game crashes to desktop right after the RagePluginHook loading screen

Update RagePluginHook to the latest release and pull recently added .dll files out of the plugins folder one at a time. RagePluginHook also needs a fully up-to-date game, and it prints the real reason in RagePluginHook.log.

Two trainers are installed and neither menu opens

Only run one trainer or menu mod at a time, or rebind one in its config file. Native Trainer defaults to F4 and Menyoo to F8 — check each mod's config and change one if the binds collide.

Windows Defender or my antivirus deleted ScriptHookV.dll and the game now crashes

Script Hook V is a well-known antivirus false positive. Add your entire GTA V folder to the exclusions in Windows Defender (Virus & threat protection > Exclusions) and reinstall Script Hook V.

Windows says access is denied when I try to copy mods into the game folder

The default install lives under Program Files, which is write-protected. Run OpenIV and your file manager as administrator, or move the game to another drive and update the path in your launcher.

After extracting a mod there's a Grand Theft Auto V folder inside my game folder

You unpacked the archive into the wrong spot. Copy the mod's actual contents (ScriptHookV.dll, .asi, etc.) directly into the game root instead of leaving the extra wrapper folder inside it.

The game crashes right after I install a car mod

The model files are in the wrong archive or clash with another mod. In OpenIV edit mode, replace the vehicle's .yft and .ytd in the correct .rpf inside the mods folder, and remove the new mod to confirm it's the culprit.

GTA Online won't load or I get kicked when mods are installed

GTA Online now runs BattlEye anti-cheat, so modded files belong in Story Mode only. For Online, remove Script Hook V and the .asi/.dll files (or use a clean install) — modding Online risks a ban.

The game started crashing to desktop after I added several mods at once

Remove mods in batches to find the one causing it — for RagePluginHook mods read RagePluginHook.log in the game folder, and for .asi scripts take them out one by one and relaunch.

All my mods stopped working after the last GTA V update

A game update disables the current Script Hook V and can overwrite modded files. Update Script Hook V to the build matching the new game version, then re-apply your mods through OpenIV.

The vehicle I added is invisible, or only the wheels show

The model is missing a file — usually the .ytd textures or handling data wasn't installed. Reinstall the full vehicle mod via OpenIV into the correct .rpf instead of dropping a single file.

GTA V won't start at all after I deleted some .rpf files

Original game archives should never be deleted. Run your launcher's repair tool (Steam: Verify integrity of game files) to restore them, and from now on do all edits inside OpenIV's mods folder.

Installed a RagePluginHook plugin but nothing appears in-game

RPH plugins are .dll files that must sit in the plugins folder inside the game directory and match your RagePluginHook and game versions. Update RPH, reinstall the plugin into the plugins folder, and check RagePluginHook.log.

Mods that worked on the old game version don't load on the Enhanced version

The PC 'Enhanced' edition of GTA V is a different build, and some tools lagged behind it at release. Make sure Script Hook V, OpenIV, and RagePluginHook are versions that list Enhanced support, or run the legacy version of the game, which most mods still target.
