📋 About This Mod
THIS MOD DOES NOT ADD ANYTHING TO THE GAME, IT JUST USES THE VANILLA SOUNDS ON DIFFERENT CARS
I never liked how Rockstar managed car sounds in this game, they used lots of diesel engine sounds for cars that just don't have a diesel option in real life, especially in the U. S. where the great majority of cars are petrol powered. I've changed the sound of quite some cars, especially SUVs, I don't have a full list but I'm sure you'll notice the difference (Maybe I'll make one in the future)
- Installation is easy and much faster than before.
- No need to add new sound files, installation is just one file
- Changed more car sounds and tweaked existing ones
- Now pretty much every car sounds as it should
Known "issue"
- Police sedans have the FBI siren sound
- Police calls out some modifed sedans as "SUVs"
V2. 5 changelog
- Used sounds from DLC cars such as the Windsor and the new Schafter
Reworked Engine Sounds is a tweak mod for GTA V that reassigns vanilla car sounds to better match real-life petrol engines, especially for SUVs. It requires no new sound files, just a single file install. With 538 endorsements and 18,863 downloads, it's a popular quality-of-life improvement for players bothered by inaccurate engine audio.

📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 538 endorsements and 18,863 downloads
- Easy install—just one file, no extra sound files needed
- Makes engine sounds more realistic for petrol cars, especially SUVs
⚠️ Cons

- Known issues: police sedans get FBI siren, some sedans are misidentified as SUVs
- Last updated in 2016—may not be compatible with latest GTA V updates
For GTA V players who are bothered by unrealistic diesel engine sounds on petrol cars and want a quick audio fix. It's perfect for those who prefer vanilla assets and want a simple, low-risk tweak. Skip if you want new custom sounds or if you're playing on a version after 2016 without compatibility checks.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a single file, just drop it into your mods folder or use a mod manager like OpenIV to replace the appropriate file.
- If you're on a newer game version, test the mod after installation—if sounds are missing, you may need to update the mod or revert.
- Make a backup of the original file before replacing, so you can easily revert if you don't like the changes.
