Footprint Performance

Improve footprint performance and fix visual issues.

Footprints accumulate excessively.  With enough on screen the framerate will be crippled even for high-end desktop devices.  On weaker devices (e.g., Steam Deck) this effect is even more pronounced.  This mod provides a configurable cap for footprints and fixes numerous related issues.

These can be configured or disabled through the mod's configuration screen.

Performance

• []Set a cap for footprints.  Once this is exceeded, the oldest footprint will be removed as soon as it is out of view.

  []Increase the degradation rate for footprints.  The faster they fade, the less need to be removed early.

  Visual Improvements/Tweaks

  • []Fix a bug that prevents footprints from fading out (they are just abruptly removed at the end of their lifespan).

    []Fix issues that cause footprints to not appear in situations where they should be (e.g., there is a long delay when walking from grass onto a dirt trail before footprints start to appear).

    []Improve footprints to feel more natural when moving between certain terrain types (e.g., between swamp and dirt).
