📋 About This Mod
A rework of most building recipes and others to slow down GM and add a bit more progression
!! This is a reupload of the mod from the steam workshop for non-Steam users. I'll do my best to keep it current, but feel free to ping me in the GM discord if it isn't so I can update !!
Installation: Unzip and drop the SAR folder into
Documents\Foxy Voxel\Going Medieval\Mods
I am unsure how Vortex handles GM mods. I'll leave the button up for now, but let me know if it works or not.
Fully compatible with 1. 0.
Please read notes at the bottom about certain production recipes
This is an overhaul of virtually every building recipe and a handful of others designed to slow the game down. A lot.
The current release contains:
- 3 custom buildings (compost bin, sawhorse, crafting bench)
- 8 intermediate resources (wooden planks and supports, firewood, mortar, raw wool and flax for processing, rope, pottery )
- Recipes for renewable resources (dirt, clay, tallow)
- Full rework of construction costs
- A set of hay clothes (Standalone mod here )
The bulk of this mod edits building costs. Amounts have been adjusted, existing GM resources have been given more utility, and you may still have wicker floors and doors when the first winter rolls in.
Most objects that look like they're made from refined wood actually require refined wood. In general, buildings will cost what they look like (with some exceptions).
Hay is used widely and in larger amounts.
- Hay clothes require 80 hay each
- Bedding/furniture requires more than in vanilla
- Roofing needs more hay
- Raw clay construction now needs hay
Raw Wood is still used in wooden walls, torches, and a few other buildings where it made sense to stay.
- Wooden walls cost more and take longer to build (as do all walls, merlons, and roofs)
- Torches now require tallow to build
Stick costs have been increased for most wicker items.
- Fences cost roughly what they look like
- Wicker beds slightly more expensive
- 8 sticks per floor tile, 4 per grate
- Hay roofing needs some amount of sticks
- Can be chopped from wood at the sawhorse (not the woodwork station)
Wooden Supports and Planks
- Planks and supports are required in most wooden construction (similar wood input, time consuming)
- Crafted at the woodworking station or the sawhorse (unlocked by default)
- Crafted in bulk at the woodwork bench with moderate skill requirements (4x in, 4x out, 3x craft time)
Ornate Wood
- Unlocked with Wood Carving
- Used in "ornate" objects and fancy furniture
- Needs 15 carpentry skill
Likely due for another pass, needs more testing and art
Cloth
- Linen and wool must be woven at the sewing station from raw wool and raw flax
- Cloth and rope required for buildings where appropriate
- Vanilla equipment crafting requirements unchanged
Mortar
- Raw limestone and brick/block work require mortar (dirt, hay, ash, bones, water)
- Raw requires more per unit than clay/limestone bricks (less waste on smoother surfaces)
- Has a cure time before usable. Not too long, but very slow in the cold
- Compost bin produces dirt as an alternative to digging up the map for mortar and other uses
Other Notes
- Wood doors and any object with visible metalwork require sensible amounts of iron to build. Melt down metal weapons for emergencies or on Marsh maps (no iron).
- Various amounts of clay needed for different constructions. Since it's inaccessible on the Mountain, clay can be washed from dirt as a last resort.
- Candles and objects with visible candles need beeswax
- Metal/smelting changes are limited to a few building costs.
- Pottery made in the kiln needed for some construction
Getting Started
Read the next section for some personal notes about different starting scenarios. Overall this should be fully playable with any map/setting combination you can throw at it.
Highly recommend using from the start of a new save. Nothing should break, but jumping in halfway offsets the balance quite a bit. Compost bin may not unlock due to the way research works.
- Wicker doors and floors are your friend.
- Wooden walls are still buildable but more expensive.
- Set up a sawhorse ASAP for planks, supports, and to cut extra sticks****. Keep them stocked.
- Work towards unlocking sewing for all the fabric you're about to craft.
