📋 About This Mod
Adds 1500+ first names and 200+ last names to the random generation pool, mostly based on real medieval and ancient names known in 14th century England, as well as names from Arthurian and Carolingian legends.
Description
This mod adds a total of 1500+ first names for male and female characters, and 200+ last names.
The names are hand-picked based on the names known by people in 14th century England (including Wales, Scotland, and Ireland). This includes not only names of the royalty and nobility, but also ordinary John and Jane (at least, as far as they're documented in history).
This includes the names of:
-
[]Actual historical figures who lived in 14th century England (rulers, nobles, priests, merchants, farmers - anyone documented in historical records). E.g. Anselmus, Basil, Philip, Ralph, Brigid, Edith, Matilda, Sybil, etc.
[
]They appear slightly more often, roughly 1 in 4 rolls.[/]
[]Medieval and Old Celtic names (including Scottish-Gaelic, Brythonic) from a broad Middle Age period (5th-14th century). E.g. Iefan, Cynwrig, Gilla Críst, Dumnorix, Angharad, Siân, Gwendolyn, Royse, etc.[/]
[]Germanic, Anglo-Saxon, and Gothic names (5th-9th century). E.g. Gaiseric, Eoforwine, Theodemir, Boudicca, Sigihild, Godiva, etc.[/]
[]People from Arthurian and Carolingian legends. E.g. Gawain, Pelleas, Enid, Morganna, etc.[/]
[]Characters from other games and fiction that sound plausible enough to exist in Middle Age England. E.g. Elric, Jeremus, Harlaus, Wiegraf, Brienne, Geneaiva, Milleuda, Yennefer, etc.[/]
[]British philosophers, writers, anthropologists/sociologists whose family names sound plausible enough to exist in Middle Age England. E.g. de Morgan, Locke, Oakeshott, Midgley, Mumford, Radcliffe.[/]
I greatly utilized Behind the Name and Wikipedia for the creation of this mod.
Additional sources are from: Cambridge's "What's in a Name?" (Schurer, 2025), Forenames in Thirteenth- and Fourteenth-Century Yorkshire (Stel, 1999) and Christian Names in Local and Family History (Redmonds, 2004 - in Behind the Name).
