📋 About This Mod
A difficulty addon refining Struggle for Freedom and Horizontal Progression Overhaul: weapons, enemies, debuffs, MP and quickenings reworked. Tough start, resource management is key.
FREEDOM'S HORIZON
DESCRIPTION
Freedom's Horizon is a difficulty addon designed to refine and complete the gameplay of two major mods:
-
[]The Struggle for Freedom (SFF), for enhanced enemy behavior and AI.[/]
[]Horizontal Progression Overhaul, for arsenal balance and a smoother difficulty curve throughout the adventure.[/]
The goal is to create a coherent, demanding, and balanced experience where every fight, every weapon, and every decision matters. Every weapon has its own particularities and remains relevant far longer, while the game leaves plenty of room for theorycrafting and build creation.
The result is an experience that rewards preparation, adaptation, and experimentation while simply being fun to play.
🔥 DIFFICULTY
This mod demands strategy. Fights are harder: enemies hit harder, have more HP, and are more likely to dodge or parry your attacks, making every encounter more engaging and less of a button-mashing affair.
The beginning of the game is especially tough. There is no easy stroll through the early areas: every encounter demands attention, and good resource management is essential (MP, items, equipment, gil). Improvising without thinking will cost you dearly. Even chasing a rabbit is not without danger!
Expect to take your time. Spend some time gaining experience and earning gil so you never run short of support items or miss out on a better piece of armor when you need one.
The experience progression system is designed around a different approach to leveling rather than a total restriction on character growth. The goal is to prevent excessive over-leveling from trivializing encounters, while preserving the value of gaining experience and making progression feel meaningful.
You can still gain levels and benefit from them, but raw grinding alone will only get you so far. Gil, equipment, resource management, and smart preparation matter far more than simply accumulating levels.
New Game Minus (NG-) is not part of the intended balance and is strongly discouraged. The difficulty and resource economy have been designed around normal character progression. Playing without leveling can make an already demanding experience considerably more punishing, especially when combined with the increased MP costs of spells. Even basic magical support can become difficult to sustain, making NG- a particularly frustrating way to experience this mod.
💧 MP Management
MP management is an important part of the challenge.
Save crystals no longer restore MP, meaning you can no longer rely on them to fully replenish your magical resources between encounters.
However, other MP regeneration mechanics have been improved and rebalanced to provide alternative ways of sustaining your party throughout the adventure.
Learning how these systems work, managing your resources carefully, and adapting your strategies will be essential to overcoming the tougher encounters.
🧭 Early Game Advice
Explore every tool available to you from the very start, and check out the merchants as soon as you can.
Come prepared to survive the sewers at the beginning of the story, because that's where the first real difficulty spike hits. Stock up before you go down.
The challenge remains consistent throughout the game, but those who plan ahead and adapt will be rewarded.
⚔ MAIN FEATURES
[]Tougher combat: Enemies deal increased damage, have more HP, and are more likely to dodge or parry, making fights more strategic and engaging.[/]
[*]Careful pacing: The experience progression has been reworked to prevent excessive over-leveling without imposing a complete restriction on character growth. Gain experience, earn gil, and prepare your equipment, but don't exp
