📋 About This Mod
Great News
falloutkid12 has allowed me to incorporate the idea from his FO4 Balanced Essential Player mod into this mod. Now you can get back up on the spot using Stimpaks (or Radaway if you died from radiation poisoning.)
WHAT'S NEXT?
• Configurable XP requirements to clear death effects
• Configurable Rad healing on wakeup from death
• Configurable Limb healing on wakeup from death
• Option to lose weapons and armor on death

• Fix issue where health threshold doesn't reset

• Add settings holotape
• Optional Caps cost on death
• Optional penalty to max health on death
• Notification options: Immersive|Game
Features
• Wake back up in the last bed you slept in after dying, or use a Stimpak (or Radaway if you die from radiation poisoning) to get back up right away.
• NEW MCM menu to configure settings for the mod
• NEW Perks show what S. P. E. C. I. A. L. skills currently have penalties
• Settings holotape allows you to configure the settings for the mod
○ Decrease random S. P. E. C. I. A. L. skill by 1-5 after death.
○ Prevent you from healing above set health threshold after death.
○ Lose set percentage of caps after death.
○ How many rads to restore when waking after passing out.
○ NEW Where to wake up after passing out.
○ How much XP it takes to clear penalties.
◘ Recover using Stimpak/Radaway?
◘ Ask if you want to restore using Stimpak/Radaway.
◘ Apply Death Penalties when recovering using Stimpak/Radaway.
○ Heal limbs after passing out.
○ Notification options: Immersive or Game related.
○ Return to the last place you died. (FOR USE ONLY IF YOU DIED IN A LOCATION THAT YOU CAN'T GET BACK TO!)
• All death penalties are removed by gaining experience. The amount of experience required increases with your level.
• Works on any kind of death. (Other similar mods I have seen only work if you are killed by an actor.)
Install & Update
Death Penalty is a gameplay mod for Fallout 4 that changes death from a loading screen to an immersive respawn. You wake up in a nearby bed with no memory of how you got there, or you can use a Stimpak or Radaway to get back up. With 328 endorsements and over 11k downloads, it's a niche but appreciated mod for players seeking more roleplay depth.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 328 endorsements and over 11k downloads.
- Adds a fresh twist to death that fits survival and roleplay playthroughs.
- Simple concept that can make death feel less punishing and more story-driven.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2018, so it may not be compatible with the latest Fallout 4 patches or DLC.
- The mod's behavior might conflict with other death or survival overhaul mods.
- Limited description means you'll have to test how it interacts with your load order.
For Fallout 4 roleplayers who want death to feel like part of the story instead of a loading screen. Also great for survival mode fans who want a less punishing death penalty. Skip if you prefer hardcore permadeath or if you use mods that heavily alter death mechanics.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to place this mod in your load order after any mods that alter death or respawn systems to avoid conflicts.
- If you're using Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE), check for compatibility, as this mod may rely on scripts.
- Test the mod in a new save or after a clean save to see how it behaves with your current setup.
