All are good, it's a personal flavor.
I tried to make them less 'occlusive' as possible, to keep your screen readable but the visibility of the background depends essentially on the ambient light and makes big changes if you are in night, in front or back from the sun or a light source... so, if you can't read clearly information on your Pip-Boy... just turn yourself ! :D Seriously, the problem with the text comes essentially with its brightness and transparency.
If you really have difficulties with that, I highly recommend you several things that help grandly :
- Make the text a bit brighter by adding a few of all colors proportionately.
- Change the text/map appearance ( thanks to Nixsy ) by adding to your Fallout4Custom.ini ONE of these sets of lines ( in "Documents\My Games\Fallout4" ) :
