Easy Red 2 Kill Feed Lite

A lightweight, vanilla-style kill feed for Easy Red 2.

ER2 Kill Feed adds a clean Battlefield-inspired kill feed to the top-left of the HUD, showing the attacker, weapon and victim without turning the screen into another oversized UI element.

I previously worked on a much larger Chinese-style UI mod for Easy Red 2. That project had a lot more going on visually, but also came with considerably more bloat and potential performance overhead. With this plugin I wanted to go in the complete opposite direction.

Keep it simple, lightweight and make it look like something that could have shipped with the vanilla game.

The result is intentionally minimal. It gives you the information you need during a fight without taking attention away from the game.

Recommended: ER2 Mod Manager

The plugin works standalone through its BepInEx configuration file, but I highly recommend using it together with the ER2 Mod Manager plugin.

With Mod Manager installed, the Kill Feed settings can be changed directly from the in-game MOD SETTINGS menu.

You can adjust things such as the HUD position, UI scale, font size, number of entries, display duration, fade duration, maximum width and whether weapon text or the headshot tag should be shown.

This makes it very easy to position the kill feed exactly where you want it without repeatedly editing configuration files and restarting the game.

The default settings are designed around the upper-left corner and already fit the vanilla HUD quite well.

Performance

Performance was one of the main reasons for making this plugin separately instead of expanding the older large UI project.

The Kill Feed is deliberately small and event-driven. It listens to the game's existing damage, death and vehicle events rather than constantly searching through soldiers or vehicles every frame.

UI rendering is also kept simple, with only a small fixed number of active entries.

For most players, this should effectively behave like another small piece of the vanilla HUD rather than a heavy UI overhaul.

Launch the game once to generate the configuration file.

The first public release includes infantry, explosions, melee, headshots, mounted weapons, aircraft weapons, artillery, mortars and vehicle destruction.

Roadkills are currently not included. If there is enough interest after release, additional kill types can always be considered later.
