Message in a Bottle and Buried Treasure

Description

Message in a Bottle & Buried Treasure adds more reasons to explore Dinkum’s beaches and keep an eye out for hidden discoveries around the island, inspired by Animal Crossing.

Find messages washed up along the shore, open them for a surprise, and discover additional treasure while exploring the world.

The mod is a lightweight exploration expansion that fits naturally into normal Dinkum gameplay without adding a separate quest system or major progression overhaul.

Message in a Bottle

Messages can occasionally appear along the beach for you to discover.

They appear as a Bottle of Clouds you can interact with by Reading.

Interact with the bottle to open the message and receive a reward.

Possible rewards can include things such as:

• Furniture

• Clothing

Once collected, the bottle disappears normally.

The system focuses on exploration rather than adding another permanent inventory item or complicated quest chain.

They spawn within 120 tiles of your Main Tent / Post Office where Fletch works, within 2 tiles of water.

Bottles disappear overnight.

1 Bottle will always spawn at 100%, with a second bottle having a 30% chance to show. 

Bottles showing up is toggleable, and you can edit the spawn chances and how many, as well as the spawn distance.

Buried Treasure

Exploring and digging around the island can also lead to additional buried treasure discoveries.

These are intended to make wandering, searching, and digging a little more rewarding while staying close to Dinkum’s existing exploration gameplay.

Buried treasure uses existing Dinkum items and rewards rather than adding an entirely separate custom item economy.

12% chance to find a buried treasure instead of vanilla buried loot. 

You can toggle off buried treasure or change the chance rate.

Designed to Feel Vanilla

The goal is not to flood the world with free items.

Messages and treasure are occasional discoveries that add another small reason to explore your island and check places you might otherwise walk past.

Everything uses Dinkum’s existing items, rewards, world systems, and visual style wherever possible.

Installation instructions

Vortex

Install normally through Vortex.

Make sure BepInEx 6 is already installed and working.

Manual Installation

Place the mod DLL inside: Dinkum/BepInEx/plugins/

Then launch Dinkum normally.

Compatibility
