NGOverlay

Dark Souls, unlike DS2, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, has no native way to check which NG cycle you're currently on. Players have long relied on manual tricks — remembering whether they've picked up the Copper Coin, checking if Gwyn's soul was used or traded, or keeping their own tally.

This overlay adds a simple, always-visible NG+ journey counter to your game, reading directly from your save file so it always reflects your true progress. No more guessing, no more manual counting.

INSTALLATION

This mod requires Simplified ModEngine 2 (see Requirements below).

1. Install Simplified ModEngine 2 first, following its own installation instructions.

2. Copy NGOverlay.dll into the "dllMods" folder inside your Dark Souls Remastered install directory.

3. Open modengine.toml (also in the game folder) and add the following line inside the mods = [ ] array:

{ enabled = true, name = "NGOverlay Journey Counter", path = "dllMods/NGOverlay.dll" }

4. Launch the game normally through Steam.

5. The current journey (NG, NG+1, NG+2, etc.) will appear in the top-left corner of the screen.
