📋 About This Mod
Replaces the Xbox button icons in all prompts with the keys and mouse buttons you actually bound - menus, help bar, "Rest at bonfire" prompts, tutorials. Updates instantly when you rebind. Game-style key icons or text labels. No game files
Dynamic Key Prompts
Your actual key bindings in every button prompt
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin shows Xbox buttons in its prompts even when you play with keyboard and mouse. Other mods replace the button textures with fixed keys - which is wrong as soon as you rebind anything.
Dynamic Key Prompts reads the bindings from the game itself and shows the key or mouse button you actually use - and updates the moment you rebind a key.
Features
-
[]Every prompt: menus, the help bar, interaction prompts ("Rest at bonfire", "Examine"), tutorial messages, menu tabs[/]
[]Key and mouse icons in the style of the game, or plain text labels like [/]
[]Context aware: in menus A means Confirm, in the world it means Interact - each shows its own key[/]
[]Mouse buttons where you use them (attack = left mouse button, lock-on = middle button), keys elsewhere - configurable[/]
[]Three icon themes (dark, minimal, silver) and your own themes from a single editable sprite sheet[/]
[]Does not modify any game file - delete one DLL to uninstall[/]
[]Compatible with Seamless Co-op, DS2 Lighting Engine and OptiScaler; font mods are supported by design (the icons are added to whatever font is installed)[/]
Requirements
-
[]Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, Steam, latest update[/]
[]Windows 10/11 64-bit[/]
Installation
Vortex: click Mod Manager Download and deploy - the files go to the Game folder.
Manual:
-
[]Steam > Dark Souls II: SotFS > Manage > Browse local files > open the Game folder (the one with DarkSoulsII.exe)[/]
[]Copy dinput8.dll and the DynamicKeyPrompts folder into it[/]
[]Start the game as usual (with Seamless Co-op: through ds2sc_launcher.exe as before)[/]
Settings
Edit DynamicKeyPrompts\DynamicKeyPrompts.ini:
-
[]Style = icons / text[/]
[]IconTheme = dark / minimal / silver / your own theme[/]
[]Labels = auto / keyboard / mouse / both[/]
Custom icons
After the first start, DynamicKeyPrompts\icons\ contains one sprite sheet per theme (dark.png) and its layout (dark.txt). Edit the PNG, or copy both files under a new name and set IconTheme to it. The mod rebuilds the icons automatically on the next start.
Compatibility
The mod loads through dinput8.dll. If another mod already uses dinput8.dll, download the optional xinput1_3 loader file and use its xinput1_3.dll instead. With Ultimate ASI Loader, dinput8.dll can also be renamed to DynamicKeyPrompts.asi (not tested). Made to work with every game language (tested with Russian).
Troubleshooting
The mod writes DynamicKeyPrompts\DynamicKeyPrompts.log. For a bug report set Diagnostics=1 in the ini, reproduce the problem, press F9 in game and attach the log - in the Bugs tab here or on GitHub Issues.
