📋 About This Mod
Stop trying to guess what anything in the game does and make sure you're always able to make informed decisions of what's best at any given moment without having to drag yourself away from the game by adding community-sourced details to the descriptions of nearly everything in the game, removing all the guesswork on how just about anything works. Be sure to check out my Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls 2 versions.
This mod adds detailed descriptions to almost everything in the game, including:
-
[]Consumable Items[/]
[]Rings[/]
[]Armor with special effects[/]
[]Weapons with special effects[/]
[]Crafting materials[/]
[]Spells[/]
[]Covenant Items[/]
[]Weapon Skills[/]
[]Stats Softcaps (requires an optional file)[/]
[]... and much more.[/]
This mod is ENGLISH only
Most of these descriptions have been taken from the various wikis and community resources. I tried to verify that most of the information was correct; however, since there are a ton of descriptions for all the various things in the game, I could have missed something here or there. Let me know if you encounter any incorrect information or even typos and I'll do my best to fix them.
Observations:
-
[]Any items with this color will have a special effect, be sure to check their description to see what they do.[/]
[]Any items with this color will be tradeable with nestling, check the description to see what you can get for them.[/]
[]Any items with this color can be BOTH traded and have a special effect, check the description.[/]
[]Boss souls, materials and covenant items have no special coloring but they have special descriptions.[/]
[]Some spells have multiple ticks of damage or details that might not fit into the small two line short description, these items will have further descriptions in the item description itself, it's a good idea to always check with spells. This should be pointed out in the short description when it happens.[/]
[]If an item description shows a bonus as multiplicative (ie. x1. 5) then all similar effects are to be MULTIPLIED if stacked, ie. stacking Symbol of Avarice (x1. 5 souls gained) and Covetous Silver Serpent Ring (x1. 1 souls gained) gives 65% extra souls, not 60% (1. 5 x 1. 1 = 1. 65, NOT 50 + 10 = 60).[/]
[]If an item description shows a bonus as additive (ie. +50%) then similar effects are to be ADDED together, ie. stacking the Cloranthy Ring (+15% stamina regen) and Grass Cress shield (+8% stamina regen) gives +23% stamina regen, not 24% (15 + 8 = 23, NOT 1. 15 x 1. 08 = 1. 24).[/]
[]Damage Absorption(ABS) is multiplicative but you also have to take into consideration ALL sources of damage mitigation (namely armor) so the values you see in an item will rarely ever be what you see on your status screen. To calculate damage ABS you have to convert all reductions into multiplicative values (ie. 20% ABS = x0. 80 damage taken ) then multiply all of them together. Just keep that in mind when deciding if you want to use gear that reduces damage taken, is it worth it? Usually yes, if you want to understand how ABS works then I suggest you check this video, it's for ER but still very applicable to DS3.[/]
Yes. It shouldn't trigger the anti-cheat, this mod just edits item descriptions and does not touch any params. I've been using it myself for well over 2 weeks before the release of this mod with no bans. I'll update this if my account gets banned, so far that is not the case. Might require the DLC as this edits items descriptions in them as well.
This mod has not been tested in a copy of the game without both DLCs.

Better Descriptions adds detailed community-sourced descriptions to most in-game items, gear, rings, spells, and skills, helping players understand how things work. With 46 endorsements and 1,454 downloads, it's a niche UI mod for players who want clearer tooltips.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-sourced descriptions mean you get real player knowledge, not just dry stats.
- Covers a wide range of items and skills, so you'll likely find it useful across your whole playthrough.
- Small but active user base (46 endorsements) suggests it's working for those who use it.
⚠️ Cons
- Only 46 endorsements — it's a niche mod, so don't expect widespread polish or frequent updates.
- Last updated July 2026 — if the game gets patched, this may need an update to stay compatible.
For players who are tired of vague tooltips and want to know exactly what a spell or ring does before using it. If you're a completionist or someone who likes to min-max, this mod is a no-brainer. Skip if you prefer discovering mechanics on your own or if you're fine with the base game's descriptions.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this is a UI mod, make sure to place it in your mods folder and enable it in the mod manager before launching the game.
- If you're using other UI mods, load order might matter — put Better Descriptions after other UI overhauls to ensure its tooltips take priority.
- Check the mod's page for any optional patches if you have other popular mods installed, as they might conflict.
