Scholar of the Second Sin (Raster-PT versions)

07/28/2026 UPDATE:

There are now two versions of this mod. The pre-existing rasterized version meant for the classic rasterized version of DS2LightingEngine. The second version, Second Sin PT, is designed for the pathtracing version of DS2LightingEngine. So be sure to pick the right one!

Can you play this mod online?

Yes! DS2 isn't even aware any of this modification is happening because of how DS2LightingEngine functions. There is an optional download for this mod called "Optional Better Reflections" and it boosts the planar reflections to include the whole scene, but then the game must be offline. So, if you just download the main Visual Mod, you're fine. If you want extra graphical fidelity, download the optional pack if you don't care about online.

Installation instructions (rasterized DS2LE):

1. Install the latest version of DS2LightingEngine SotFS from their discord (Always make sure you have the latest version)

2. Then, copy the "tex_override" and "ds2_atmosphere_presets" folders from my Scholar of the Second Sin mod to your DS2 game folder and overwrite. That's it!

Installation instructions (Pathtracing DS2LE)

1. Install the latest version of the pathtracing DS2LightingEngine, which I recommend using the discord link above and getting it that way.

2. Copy tex_override and ds2_atmosphere_presets over to your DS2 "Game" folder and that's it. For any questions about what GPUs work best with the PT version of DS2LightingEngine or performance questions, I'd refer those to their discord. I'm running on a 4060 Ti 16gb, ryzen 7 5700x, 64gb of ddr4, and I get 60fps at 1440p dlss performance (latest dlss dll, model M)

When updating to a newer version of DS2LightingEngine:

When a new beta version of DS2LightingEngine comes out on their discord, updating is easy.

Just download the latest version from the "beta releases LE" channel. unzip it. and copy the dxgi.dll and shader folder. but SKIP the ds2le_atmospheres folder.

DS2LightingEngine User Settings recommendations:

Antialiasing method: DLSS (use FSR if you don't have an Nvidia card)

DLSS Quality: Quality or DLAA

Preset: Render Preset J

MSAA: turn on if you can still maintain 60fps. try 2x, then 4x, etc.

Image Sharpen: 40. 5 (you can lower or raise it to your preference)
