📋 About This Mod

In DFU, there really isn't any functional difference in how a Knight and an Assassin behave in a fight. Both will shoot you with a bow at long range and then switch to melee when you move close enough. Same deal with other monsters, like Rats, Tigers and Bears (oh my): they shuffle towards you and attack when you're close enough. With this, I tried my hand at changing it up a bit.

DIVERSE BEHAVIORSEach Enemy has been assigned several flags that determine their possible actions in combat:

  • []Prefers Ranged

    []Can Jump

    []Can Cleave

Different combinations of flags (together with DFU's default behavior tracking and Enhanced Combat AI) will result in enemies that are usually similar act in a much more distinct way. As an example, Archers and Assassins will stay at range and pelt their foes with arrows while Knights and Barbarians will quickly charge into the thickest of the fighting and only use their bows as a last resort.

CHARGE

  • []Enemies that don't prefer range will perform a Charge attack if their target stays at range from them

[]If the charging NPC collides with the target, they will make an attack against the target in addition to the attack that occurs when their animation plays

[]Most enemies that need to close into melee will be able to Charge

[]If Maneuvers are allowed in Mod Settings, enemies will Charge towards their target even if the distance is more than their max range as long as vertical distance is not too great.

JUMP

  • []Similar to Charge but with less range and faster startup

[]Colliding with their target also procs an additional attack, similar to Charging

[]This allows NPCs to cross small obstacles or even reach targets at different heights

[]Fast and agile enemies like Rats, Tigers, Spiders, Rogues and Barbarians will frequently Jump in combat

[]If Maneuvers are allowed in Mod Settings, enemies will Jump to reach different levels while following their target.

DASH

  • []Enemies that prefer range, like Archers and Assassins, can perform a backwards Dash to create distance when their target gets too close.

[]If the enemy has a non-spell ranged attack, they may perform that attack during this dash.

[]Enemies that can jump will also have a small chance to perform a Dash while in close combat.

CLEAVE

[]Enemies that can cleave will hit multiple targets every time they attack

[]This also takes effect with attacks made during Actions (eg, a Barbarian that makes a Jump attack can hit multiple targets when they land)

[]Cleaving enemies are those that are big or often fight while outnumbered like Giants, Knights and Orcs
