"Ludonarrative dissonance is the conflict
between a video game's narrative told
through the non-interactive elements and
the narrative told through the gameplay."
One of the forms of Ludonarrative dissonance is the cost of firearms in virtual Night City. Nearly everybody has one or two, it's apparently easier to get a gun than a well-flavored scopmeal in NC, but for some reason when V tries to buy one it ends up costing more than a Quadra. What's up with that? This mod was built to answer that exact question.
Like my other mod Autofixer Rebalance (go download that too!), this mod hyper-focuses on the ideas of brand, class and prestige. No stone was left unturned, and in fact a lot of them have been cast aside or placed entirely differently.
In other words:
- weapon cost is no longer linked to quality
- weapon cost is no longer linked to tier
- weapon cost is solely based upon type (Smart/Tech/Power), kind (sniper, SMG, shotgun), brand and associated prestige
- weapons sell for closer to their original cost
- some brands have a negative or positive 'Street Rep' that impacts sell price
- weapons are significantly cheaper from Tier 2 onwards
In ludonarrative terms, this makes the idea of the Slaught-O-Matic even more dystopic. You can save $100 for a disposable and non-reloadable plastic PoS, but you can't save $500 for a Lexington? This also means that if you're trying to sell guns from brands like Budget Arms, Kang Tao or Darra, nobody really gives a damn about you or your gonk-ass merch and you won't get much back. Sell your Arasaka, Tsunami or Militech? You'll get close to a full refund as that's some nova hardware, choom.
What this means is:
- a Common costs the same as a Rare, and + tiers don't matter
- you buy a gun for $700, it sells for roughly $500
- buy price is still influenced by Street Cred, but on a much smaller scale
- yes, guns are now that cheap.. all the time
As far as "brand image" and such goes, I've equated them with real-world cars/brands:
- Arasaka is Toyota Century (second-gen with the V12)
- Tsunami is higher-trim Mazda
- KangTao is BYD
- Militech is Denali line of GMC
- Constitutional/Midnight Arms/Malorian is Ford/Chevy
- Techtronika is LADA Bronto March-1
- Budget Arms, Rostovic, Darra and Nokota are collectively 90's econobox with limp motor
This mod should hopefully be compatible with anything, really. It uses TweakXL and will load last due to naming convention, so any conflicting entries will be
