📋 About This Mod

V Voice Framework

A lightweight, dependency-free voice playback toolkit for V.

This is the engine room behind V For Vibrant — split out as a standalone framework so any mod author can give V contextual voice lines without writing the plumbing from scratch. No yaml, no status-effect hacks, no TweakXL dependency. Just clean redscript hooks into the game's own quest voiceset system.

If you're building a mod that wants V to grunt in pain, laugh at a kill, or mutter something under their breath when the player does X — this framework is the foundation you build on, not the mod you install for its own sake.

What it actually does

One core function, VFV_PlayVoice, handles everything:

  • []Plays any vanilla voiceset line through the game's quest system — the same mechanism scenes and quests use[/]

[]Gated by a shared cooldown (VFV_VoiceBlocked) so rapid-fire triggers — shotgun pellets, multi-hit combos — can't spam five voice lines on top of each other in the same second[/]

[]Wraps a full availability check before ever opening V's mouth: blocks during cutscenes, photo mode, swimming, workspots, phone calls, and the pre-game loading window, so V never talks over a scene or interrupts a call already in progress[/]

[]Pre-set that same cooldown for a few seconds after a save loads (configurable "After-Load Quiet Time"), so stats initialization in the first moments after loading can't fire false reactions[/]

A ready-made reaction library ships in two layers: ~25 curated VFV_Reaction* calls (combat kills, pain, stealth, curiosity, surprise...) plus 12 curated emotion groups (VFV_GroupPain, VFV_GroupRelief, VFV_GroupTaunt, VFV_GroupCurious and more) — each group pulls one random line from a hand-checked pool of 7–24 generic lines, so repeated triggers don't repeat the same bark. And behind it all, the full catalog: 13,000+ individually addressable lines.

Built to be extended, not just used. VFV_GetVoiceCooldown() is a plain overridable hook — define your own settings class, wrap this one function, and your mod's own cooldown value flows straight into the shared playback system without the framework ev
