RDNA 2 Path Tracing Optimization

This mod optimizes Path Tracing for AMD RDNA2 GPUs (RX 6800/6900 XT series). You get both much better performance (including more stable framerates overall) as well as much better image quality.

Versus the other RT optimization mods, it:

• []improves VRAM management

  []fixes denoiser artifacts

  []makes lighting sharper and more stable

  []preserves detail

  []largely eliminates frame-time spikes

  []reduces slowdowns and prevents crashes

I've tested it on my setup using FSR4 on performance mode (2x upscaling) + Frame Gen at 3440x1440. I'd suggest getting FSR4 working on your rig, but it's not necessary to get quality uplifts over other options.

On my rig which is a Ryzen 5950X, RX 6900 XT, 32GB of 3200Mhz RAM, and a PCIE4 SSD on a 3440x1440 Ultrawide, I go from 42-56 FPS and an average of 48 FPS in the benchmark (again, with FSR4 on Performance mode) to 58-78 FPS with an average of 68.

This mod disables all Nvidia features and then tweaks just about every knob I could to try to both close the quality gap and reduce overhead. It is specifically for AMD cards, it is NOT a catch-all performance improvement. It changes cache sizes, culling behaviors, every sort of threshold, and way way more. The result is significantly cleaner, more stable, and more detailed path tracing specifically on AMD hardware, particularly older RDNA 2 cards but also RDNA 3. Do not use it if you have an Nvidia card.
