📋 About This Mod

- Introduction -

In vanilla you can wipe out half the Maelstrom population in Watson and the survivors don't know, don't care, and the faction certainly doesn't hold a grudge. Kill 50 Tyger Claws in an afternoon? The next group you meet greets you like a stranger. Night City has no memory.

Night City Remembers gives the gangs a bit of a memory... Kill enough of a faction and they will get hostile toward you if you do it in short enough time. But here's the twist - they can't blame you for something nobody saw. Every kill goes into a pending queue first. It only counts against you when a same-faction NPC spots you near the body. Sniper from a rooftop with no witnesses? Nobody knows who shot Nils. Poor Nils. Whatever did Nils do to you, you monster?! Anyway... If you are identified nearby an already dead NPC, by a member of the same faction, within the given time period then that kill will be attributed to you.

During combat every NPC has a chance to identify you for who you are, and if they do then if you don't kill them quick enough their faction will know it was you. Taking on four gangers in broad daylight might be easy but it also means there's a possibility you get four kills attributed to you and the whole faction becoming hostile.

Then there's the plague. The plague is you and it seems the plague is only affecting gangers. Strange how that works... Push a faction too far and their population starts declining. Keep pushing and they go extinct. Eight tiers from Full Strength to Wiped Out. Night City remembers - but only if it sees, and only if there's someone left to see.

TL;DR: Gangs track your kills, hold grudges, and eventually go extinct. But only if they catch you. ( -_•)︻デ═一

- Infrastructure -

This mod is not only intended to function for my own mods, but as a central place for mods to track faction/gang status.

As such there is a modders section further down outlining the API.

- Kill Attribution -

When you kill an NPC, the death goes into a pending queue - not immediately blamed on you. The kill only counts when you're identified by a same-faction NPC within the attribution radius (default 150m) of the kill location.

Unwitnessed kills expire after 90 in-game minutes. If nobody connected the dots, you walk free.

Identification is handled by Street Sense's detection system - distance, stealth, disguise, and timing all factor in.

- Faction Hostility -

Once enough witnessed kills accumulate (default 25), the entire faction turns hostile. Not just the NPC who spotted you - the whole gang. New members spawning nearby are imm
