📋 About This Mod
Please ensure you delete the PremiumPoliceProtection folder from the old version, as I have renamed the mod folder. Verify the exact path in the sticky post. While skipping this step won't break anything, it will significantly increase your chances of attracting police attention.
Description
Judging by the exclamation mark on the Break In menu — even in an absolutely empty garage — it looks like CDPR originally planned to threaten us with a good time, but dropped the idea somewhere along the way.
Lore-wise, stealing vehicles was probably supposed to trigger some kind of world reaction. What remains in the game are mostly warning signs on vehicles under the “potential risk” category.
This mod lightly restores that idea.
Selected vehicles can now have alarm / tracking behavior. Police cars are no longer free souvenirs, corpo rides may phone home, and expensive cars may come with the kind of customer support that arrives in an SUV with rifles.
The system is intentionally lightweight: not every vehicle is protected, not every protected vehicle triggers NCPD, and player-owned / garage-unlocked vehicles are ignored.
Cheap junkers are still safe to steal, mostly because nobody cares.
This was originally supposed to be part of Claim or Sell Stolen Vehicles, but the feature grew legs, stole a car, and became its own mod.
Features:
- Adds police-risk behavior to selected stolen / mounted vehicles.
- Police and law enforcement vehicles are obviously a bad idea.
- Corpo, luxury, and high-end vehicles may trigger NCPD attention.
- Different vehicle classes have different risk profiles.
- Higher-value vehicles can trigger stronger police heat.
- Heat is refreshed for a short pressure window instead of disappearing immediately.
- Player-owned / garage-unlocked vehicles are ignored.
- Cheap junkers, poor-tier vehicles, nomad vehicles, and gang cars are generally ignored. Nomads and gangs are not protected for lore reasons. Night City has many problems, but universal vehicle insurance is not one of them.
- Stealing a Rayfield or Herrera can easily turn your evening into a world of pain.
How it works:
When you board a vehicle obtained through the path of the Car Ninja, the vehicle may phone home.
This is consistent with Cyberpunk 2077 lore — especially the side job These Boots Are Made for Walkin', where a vehicle being tracked is very much the point.
Not every car has an alarm system, and not every alarm-equipped car will get NCPD attention. The NCPD may be busy somewhere else — possibly at the cyberpunk donut shop, or chasing another punk like you.
If you leave the vehicle and hide, the heat will eventually disappe
LowJack adds alarm systems to selected vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077, making police cars, corpo rides, luxury cars, and rare supercars call NCPD when stolen. Cheap junkers remain safe because nobody cares. A small gameplay mod with 47 endorsements and 8,202 downloads, last updated June 2026.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tiny but clever idea—stealing a cop car now has consequences.
- Lightweight and focused; doesn't overhaul the whole game.
- Community interest is decent (47 endorsements, 8.2k downloads) for a niche gameplay tweak.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects a handful of vehicle types—most cars are still free to steal.
- May conflict with other vehicle or police overhaul mods—test carefully.
For Cyberpunk 2077 players who want a bit more risk when jacking high-end rides. If you're a stealth thief who loves stealing rare cars, this adds a new layer of tension. Skip if you prefer pure power fantasy or don't care about vehicle theft.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you use a mod manager like Vortex, install this mod through it to keep track of updates.
- Test with a save before a big heist—make sure the alarm doesn't trigger when you're just entering a car for a scripted mission.
- Check your load order if you have other vehicle mods; put LowJack after them to ensure its changes apply.
