The dead are not the only ghosts in Night City.

This mod continues my Small Immersive Encounters series with four new ambient story moments scattered throughout the city. There are no quest markers and no prompts—just quiet discoveries that expand the world and reward exploration.

You might come across a revered false idol who just wants out of the life she never chose, a rookie netrunner picked up by a corpo who sees nothing but opportunity, or a runaway hitchhiker trying to survive one more night. Each encounter is designed to feel like a natural part of the world, adding depth, emotion, and atmosphere.

Let the city speak. You just have to be there to listen.

Near Rancho Coronado, on the edge of the Badlands, flickering candles line the steel bars, and offerings of devotion. At the centre, a woman sits in a cage built from scavenged metal and tech, barely big enough for her to stand. Her name used to trend. A net-famous spiritualist who promised peace through digital cleansing, she gathered followers with soft voices and soft filters. She preached freedom from flesh, ego, and debt.

Then they came for her.

Now she weeps day and night. Her voice raw from begging, but they say it is part of the ritual. That their idol is purifying in pain. Worshippers come and go, whispering prayers and sliding money through the cage bars. Some cry. Some smile.

Out on the edge of the Jackson Plains, where the winds hum through broken fences and sun-bleached trash, a lone figure stands by the roadside. A young woman with a dusty rucksack packed tight—water, food, meds, a sleeping bag rolled with care. The kind of pack someone builds when they think they're ready for anything.

She waits for a ride that may never come, thumbing through a badly folded map and staring toward the city skyline in the distance. Night City. That’s where she’s going. That’s where it all starts. Or so she thinks. She doesn’t know about the scav gangs that ride the backroads like wolves. She doesn’t know that city folk will see her as meat, or worse, as a mark. She doesn’t know that sometimes the best thing you can do is stay in NorCal—even if it’s boring. Even if it’s hard.

And somewhere, out there on the cracked road, a car is coming.

In a storm drain beneath Northside, a corpo woman lies slumped down on the concrete. Her nails are torn, her face is swollen, and her right eye socket is hollow where a shard of chrome used to be. The rats don’t even go near her.

Her laptop is gone. But the blood-streaked handprint on the floor says she didn’t give it up easy.
