Echos of Loss - Immersive Encounters

This mod adds four standalone ambient encounters across Night City, each centred around the theme of loss and the hidden lives of its people.

Created using World Builder—so no prop packs required—these scenes are meant to quietly expand the emotional depth of the city. From a grieving policewoman, to the lifeless body of a joytoy, each moment offers a glimpse into the pain, stories, and humanity often overlooked in the chaos of Night City.

These are non-intrusive, immersive additions—no quests, no map markers. Just echoes of sorrow, waiting to be discovered.

This also goes nicely with my previous mod Ghosts of Night City.

ALICE NEVER CAME HOME

On the edge of Arasaka Waterfront, a man sits alone on a worn stool, head bowed, shoulders trembling. Before him, a crude vigil: a few flickering candles, a hologram, and wilting flowers. Alice... She was his daughter. She drowned in the harbour.

Her body was never recovered.

He couldn't afford a funeral. No ceremony. No grave. Just this quiet corner of the city where the tide stole her away. So he returns here. Every day. Every night. To sit, and cry as the waves lap against the concrete and the world moves on without her. He talks to her sometimes, when he thinks no one’s listening. And Night City, for all its neon and noise, offers no comfort, only the silence of loss echoing off steel and water.

THE PARTNER SHE COULDN'T SAVE

She comes here sometimes. Between shifts. When the noise of the city becomes too much and the silence of her heart is louder than sirens.

At the edge of Night City sits a small wooden cross. His badge is pinned to it. Diego. He died in a car chase. Gone in a moment she never got to share. She wasn’t there. She lives with that. So now she brings two bottles. One for her. One for him. Sits by the cross. Stares at the sky. Says nothing. She missed him. Maybe she even loved him. But the words stayed trapped in her throat while he was alive. Now she drinks with a ghost and wonders if he hears her. If he knows.

SHE ALMOST GOT AWAY

She didn’t have a name people remembered. Just a face seen in passing, a voice that learned to fake warmth. She ran. From a man who owned her, beat her, sold her like a product. She made it as far as Pacifica—barely. Down in a forgotten noodle shack, she made a small camp. A mattress. An old bag. Half a box of ramen. She was scared. She was alone. But for a moment, she was free. Then they found her. Now she lies there. A broken body in a city that never looked twice. Her things still there. Like she might come back. But she won’t.
