Installation

  That is the whole installation. You only need the main file, there is nothing to configure and nothing else to download.

  When installed, the mod will reconfigure all gearboxes for all player owned vehicles. This changes how gearshifts feel and sound in-game. It does not have an effect on performance, although in most cases vehicles can feel faster because of a more pleasing rpm range. Power, speed, braking, grip, weight and handling are untouched, exactly as in the vanilla game.

  Anything that changes how a vehicle performs is OPTIONAL. If you want to explore the profile system and potential of this mod, see the Optional and Companion App sections below.

  On the topic of Game Performance and CET

  This is one mod, not a framework. Authentic Shift does not install a scheduler, it does not hook per-frame events to keep itself alive, it does not need a companion runtime or an engine layer underneath it, and it adds nothing else to your load order. It is Lua that runs once, does its work, and stops. Nothing about it grows as you add profiles or vehicles, and there is nothing for it to leave running behind you.

  The mod only ever runs while the game is loading. It adjusts the vehicle values in the TweakDB once and then does nothing at all while you play, so it cannot cause stutter while driving. The load time is printed in the CET console:

  The single exception is one extra button: the "Engine On/Off Toggle Button" hotkey that you can bind in the CET Bindings menu. It does nothing until you press it.

  The In-Game GUI follows the same rule. Per-frame Lua is the one real way a CET mod costs performance, so the window does nothing while you are not looking at it:
