📋 About This Mod
Deathtrap Enhanced V2 turns Gaige's robotic companion into the deadly combat partner he was meant to be. Deathtrap fights smarter, reacts faster, targets enemy weakpoints. Melee, ranged, and Laser Stare attacks aim for vulnerable areas.
Description
Deathtrap Enhanced V2 turns Gaige’s robotic companion into a smarter, faster, and more reliable combat partner while keeping his core Borderlands 2 behavior intact.
The mod focuses on improving Deathtrap’s combat intelligence rather than replacing him with a custom scripted companion. He still uses Gearbox’s native AI, animations, attacks, melee definitions, damage systems, and skill behaviors, but receives additional targeting, weakpoint, responsiveness, and combat-quality improvements.
Deathtrap makes better use of enemy weakpoints, aims his melee and ranged attacks more intelligently, uses Laser Stare more effectively, and gets an improved Atomic Clap. His combat flow is more responsive, with less idle time and fewer situations where he simply stands around instead of fighting.
The mod also includes an environmental retaliation filter: Deathtrap will no longer treat shock cactus and similar environmental hazards as enemies just because they damage him. He can still take the environmental damage normally, but he will not waste his attacks trying to fight the cactus.
Smarter targeting. Better attacks. Less standing around. More Deathtrap.
Installation instructions
Install the mod as a standard PythonSDK
DeathtrapEnhancedV2.sdkmodfile into your Borderlands 2
sdk_modsfolder, then launch the game and enable Deathtrap Enhanced V2 from the Mods menu.
A full game restart is recommended after installing, updating, or replacing the mod so all hooks and package-level Deathtrap changes are loaded cleanly.
If you are updating from an older experimental Deathtrap Enhanced V2 build, remove or replace the old version rather than keeping multiple versions installed at the same time.
Main features
-
[]Improved Deathtrap combat AI
Deathtrap reacts faster, spends less time standing around, and moves through his normal combat decisions more reliably while retaining the native BL2 scheduler.[/
][]Weakpoint-aware targeting
Deathtrap can identify useful enemy hit regions and physical weakpoints instead of always treating the center of the enemy Pawn as the only meaningful target.[/]
[]Improved melee accuracy
Swipe, Uppercut, Beatdown, Frenzy, and Frenzy End cooperate with the weakpoint system while continuing to use the real native Deathtrap melee attacks, animations, root motion, and damage pipeline.[/]
[]Better ranged attacks
Ranged attacks can aim toward useful physical weakpoints while preserving their native damage behavior.[/]
[]Improved Laser Stare
Laser Stare receives better target and weakpoint aiming while remaining part of Deathtrap’s normal native action system.[/]
[]Enhanced Atomic Clap
Atomic Clap has a substantially increased effective damage radius and improved handling of enemies with component-based weakpoints, while preserving BL2’s native explosion and victim-selection behavior.[/]
[]Environmental hazard intelligence
Deathtrap ignores shock cactus and similar environmental retaliation sources instead of trying to attack them after taking damage. Environmental damage itself is left untouched.[/]
[]Faster combat responsiveness
Several Deathtrap attack actions and animations are tuned to reduce unnecessary delays without replacing the original attacks.[/]
[]Improved combat positioning
Deathtrap can perform short-range positioning to line up meaningful melee weakpoint attacks while leaving long-distance pursuit to the native AI.[/]
[]Native-first design
The mod does not replace Deathtrap with a custom combat system. Gearbox still controls his action selection, animations, melee attacks, Laser Stare, Atomic Clap, native damage processing, and death handling.[/]
[]Fail-open safety
If the weakpoint system cannot confidently resolve a valid physical target, Deathtrap falls back to normal native behavior rather than forcing an unsafe or fabricated hit.[/]
-
[]Borderlands 2[/]
[]PythonSDK / OpenBLCMM-compatible SDK mod environment[/]
[]A working
sdk_modsinstallation and Mods menu[/]
The mod is designed as a standalone Deathtrap enhancement and contains its own combat, weakpoint, cooldown, targeting, and runtime logic.
For best results, avoid running multiple mods that directly rewrite the same Deathtrap AI definitions, melee definitions, Laser Stare behavior, Atomic Clap behavior, or Deathtrap cooldown values at the sam
