Description

WinterTick is a plugin that caps the maximum FPS (tickrate) for BioShock Remastered.

BioShock's engine runs its simulation and rendering in lockstep where basically one tick is one rendered frame. So, your tickrate and your FPS are the same number and capping the tickrate is what caps your framerate. BioShock Remastered already uses an uncapped tickrate when vsync is disabled. However, this can cause instability due to extremely high FPS, with some people I know getting 1000+ FPS in certain areas of the game. With tickrates that high it can cause issues with physics, graphics rendering, and even cause massive noticeable stutters when the FPS drops from something like 700 to 200. This mod aims to let you cap your max FPS while vsync is disabled to a safe value and prevent most of these issues from occurring.

This plugin includes a config file that lets you set the MaxTickRate to anything of your choice between 0 - 500. These values have been chosen to be safe for basically everyone, including those with higher end PCs.

  Configuration

  Bundled with the plugin is the WinterTick.ini config file. This is where you will make changes to your tickrate. The plugin will automatically generate this file with its default value if it is missing from the folder the plugin is located in. The default value in this case is the game's default tickrate when capped which is 120.

  Requirements

  IMPORTANT:

  This plugin requires the BioShock Remastered Plugin Loader. Without it, the mod will not activate or be enabled.

  Installation

  • []Reminder: Make sure you have the plugin loader installed.[/]

    []Download the latest release from the Files tab.[/]

    []Navigate to your BioShock Remastered binary directory.

    Example (Steam): \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BioShock Remastered\Build\Final\BioPlugins[/]

    []Drag and drop WinterTick.dll and WinterTick.ini into this directory.[/]

    []Open up WinterTick.ini in any text editor of your choice. Under MaxTickRate, change its value to the tickrate cap of your choice. 0 for uncapped FPS. 500 is the max cap allowed by the plugin.[/]

    []Save the file once you are satisfied with your choice.[/]

    []Launch the game. You can check Plugins.log with any text editor to verify that WinterTick loaded successfully.[/]

    []Disable vsync at the main menu. You can disable vsync by going to Options -> Graphics Options -> Vertical Sync : OFF. Without it being disabled the cap will not take effect if the chosen cap is above your monitor's refresh rate. For example, a 30 tickrate cap on a 144Hz monitor would still apply even with vsync enabled.[/]

    []To verify that the mod is working, use any FPS overlay of your choice. This could be the Steam Overlay, ReShade, or any built in hardware FPS overlay like AMD Adrenalin or the NVIDIA Overlay.[/]

    BioShock Remastered does not have its own FPS display.

    • []To uninstall the plugin simply delete WinterTick.dll and WinterTick.ini from the 'BioPlugins/' folder.[/]
