📋 About This Mod
This is an updated version of Distinguished Service that should hopefully work on 1. 1. 6 and 1. 2. 0 beta (individual files)
I am not the creator of the mod, all credits goes to 8thor8
Also available on steam
Big thanks to PapaOurs for the 1. 1. 0 version aswell
Have you ever decided that the random people you pick up in taverns aren't right for you? Wouldn't you rather your close companions have earned their place and your trust? Wouldn't you prefer to have some say in the sorts of skills they bring to the table? Well this mod is for you!
Distinguished Service allows you to promote soldiers from your ranks to companions, if they distinguish themselves during battle! Criteria are laid out in the settings, but the defaults requirements are:
+Top-tier unit (no available upgrades)
+ 5/6/7 kills at least for Infantry/Cavalry/Ranged
+Top 68th percentile in kills across the battlefield (e.g. top 1 sigma)
Once nominated, you can select up to 2 (by default) soldiers, and select skills for them to have developed while they made their way up the ranks in your army.
You can groom them for leadership - of a party, and army, or a city - or you can make the ultimate killing machine/captain(/waifu?) for your own party.
They will be given names based on their Culture, however you can use a namelist instead. It is located (by default) at:
Modules\DistinguishedService120\external_namelist.txt
Now with MCM to configure and tweak mod settings like kill thresholds.
Distinguished Service 1.3.14 Warsails is an updated version of the original Distinguished Service mod, allowing you to promote soldiers who distinguish themselves in battle to companions. It includes configurable criteria, skill selection, and MCM support. This version targets game versions 1.1.6 and 1.2.0 beta.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 1,086 endorsements and over 101k downloads.
- Adds meaningful progression by letting you turn elite soldiers into trusted companions.
- Highly customizable with MCM and external namelist support.
⚠️ Cons
- Not the original mod — it's an update, so credit goes to 8thor8 and PapaOurs.
- Only compatible with specific game versions (1.1.6 and 1.2.0 beta), not the latest.
- Requires manual file selection for your game version, which might confuse some users.
For Bannerlord players who want more control over their companions and enjoy rewarding veteran soldiers. If you're tired of random tavern recruits and want to build a trusted inner circle from your own ranks, this is for you. Skip if you prefer vanilla companion recruitment or don't want to fiddle with version-specific files.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to download the correct file for your game version (1.1.6 or 1.2.0 beta) — using the wrong one will crash.
- Use the MCM menu to adjust kill thresholds if the default requirements feel too strict or too easy.
- Check the external_namelist.txt file to customize companion names if you want more variety.
