Distinctive Consumables

Background

Many of the various consumables in the game look very similar, and in some cases outright identical. I wanted to make it easier to tell them apart, and so set out to make this mod.

What the mod does

Distinctive Consumables adds symbols on top of the consumable icons as displayed in the inventory, on the hotbar, and in the controller interface. For certain active status effects (that appear next to character portraits and health bars) applied via consumables, I made brand new icons. The symbols are the same as for the damage types you can already see in the game – except for the infinity symbol, which I chose for the Elixir of Universal Resistance. All affected consumables are listed under the spoiler below:

How it works

I extracted the original consumable icons and damage type symbols with BG3 Modder's Multitool, and edited them together in Photoshop. Additional symbols were made by hand. I also made various tweaks to rotation, size, and colour to give each consumable a more distinctive look. Finally, I used the official Toolkit to convert the icons to . DDS format, and then connected them to the consumables via their root templates. For a full list of affected files, please see the spoilers in the Compatibility sec
