Detect Thoughts With Wisdom

[January 15, 2026] I ran into an issue where some dialogues just would not trigger. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that some of the files had double extensions... That has now been corrected, as of version 1. 1.

Background

Detect Thoughts by default always uses the character's Intelligence modifier in the ability check. The intention appears to have been that the spell would use either Intelligence or Wisdom – whichever modifier was highest – but to my knowledge, it has never worked that way. I like using Detect Thoughts even with a character whose Intelligence is not their primary stat, which is why I set out to create this mod.

What the mod does

Detect Thoughts With Wisdom edits the use of Detect Thoughts in dialogue, so that the ability check against the target DC is affected by the caster's Wisdom modifier, rather than their Intelligence modifier.

This mod does not:

• []take into account which of the caster's modifiers is the highest; it will always use Wisdom.[/]

  []change anything about the spell Detect Thoughts, such as concentration, duration, or use cost.[/]

  []change any text in the dialogue options that are used for reading someone's mind.[/]

  []change the difficulty of any of the ability checks.[/]

  How it works

  Since the ability score for Detect Thoughts is not determined by the spell itself, or by the status/condition it applies to the caster, I had to instead make edits to the DialogsBinary files for each encounter where mind reading with this spell is possible.
